Hi everyone...I am looking to trade my 2003 Gx470 with 260K of miles on it and not problems whatsoever, original owner with 14 years of great service. I am putting this out there to see what everyone thinks would be a good trade in value of the vehicle. I am looking for $10K. It is in great shape, no paint issues, leather etc. All normal maintenance taken care of etc. etc....

If you're asking for honest input, I would say $10k for a GX with 260k miles in the rust belt is on the high side. I would expect something closer to $8,000.
At least around my area, people are asking under $10k for GX's of that year with around half the mileage.

Even if its really clean and well taken care of, most people don't want to go near a vehicle that's on its way to 300k miles, so I see it being a tough sale.

A dealership may give you a trade in value that is higher than that, but it will come from the purchase price of the new vehicle. Sometimes a deal happens purely because people want to feel like they got a good price on their trade in.


But you can always ask that and see what happens. If someone is willing to give you close to $10k, take it and run.

$10k is optimistic with the quoted numbers and facts. Sorry but that's the way it is.

As others have said, mileage kills value. You say "trade in", do you mean you're going to trade it in to a dealer? If so, you're not going to get more than $4-5k for it. If you sell it yourself you might get $8k but that's the absolute max. Sorry for the news but that's where the values are right now.

Run it by Carmax and get a quote from them. With that many miles on it they will quote you the wholesale price, since they won't be putting it on their lot (they'll send it to auction). You'll have a pretty good idea of what it's worth then, as Carmax is very good at pricing cars.

I am thinking wait until the first snow fall, then list it for sale for $10k. Original owner, all service records and if you've recently replaced some of the more common wear and tear items e.g. tires, brakes, shocks etc and if it's in as good as condition as you say it is, I would not be shocked if you sell it for just south of that. Toyota enthusiasts know these trucks will run 300k+ easy if property maintained.

260,000 miles is a lot of miles no matter what vehicle we are talking about. Except maybe big rig trucks built for hauling for miles and miles every day.
I myself wouldn't pay $10K for a GX with 260k (especially in the rust belt, where I too live and know the impacts underneath).
I paid less than 10K for my 2004 with about 120k on the clock, some months ago. Some issues to deal with, but at least I know I've got a lot of runway left on the truck, whereas 260k...
Anyway, good luck with your sale but look at it this way: if the GX has been that good for you, you've gotten 14 years and 260,000 miles of use out of it, so should be happy with that regardless of what you get for it.

Others have said it...$10K is too much to expect. I think $8K is even generous for an 03 in PA for private sale. Even an 05 with the upgraded engine would have a hard time fetching that price with that many miles... Even at $8K you might sit on it for a while... I think a dealer is going to kill you on TI too due to the mileage, and will position it as a "courtesy" to take it in on trade. I see them saying "it's a $3,500 truck". That said, it's not a $3,500 truck...but they're going to try and steal it from you.

I would not pay more then 5K for any normal vehicle with that many miles. It's just so close to the end of it's life in so many ways.
