GX470 Rear Bearing, Brake, Caliper, Drilled Rotors, Backup Camera from GS350
I'm working on replacing my 06 GX470 rear wheels bearings, seals, brake pads, drilled rotors, parking/emergency brake and cables, rear differential oil, and replacing backup camera using my working GS 350 backup camera.
Tools:
Sockets
-17mm
-14mm
-10mm
-17mm Box Wrench
-Rubber Hammer
-10mm Flare Nut Wrench
-Long nose plyer
-Flat tip screw driver
-12mm socket and a box wrench if replacing the parking/emergency brake cables.
-Gloves
-6" Extension
Fluid:
4qrts of 75W90 gear oil
Parts:
Moog Bearing 512227 (left driver side)
Moog Bearing 512228 (right passenger side)
Below are parts number from Lexus. When you received my parts, both left/right are looking exactly the same.
Required parts:
42312C(L) oil seal
42311V(R) oil seal
42312D(L) c-clip
42311T(R) c-clip
42423B(L) bearing retainer
42423A(R) bearing retainer
42312J(L) washer
42311Z(R) washer
42422B(L) o ring outer seal
Optional:
92112-C0616 – ABS sensor bolts or remove your old bolts from the bearing if you want to reused them.
1. Jack the car up per owner/user manual location and safety
2. Remove 6 lug nuts, wheel and slide the wheel under the car
3. Loose(only) the hard brake line bolt using 10mm Flare Nut Wrench
4. Remove the brake line holder plate using a flat tip screw driver and rubber hammer
5. Put a drain pan under to catch any brake fluid
6. Remove the hard brake line as quick as you can and slide the line out and put them back together.
7. Remove two 17mm bolts that hold the caliper.
8. Remove the caliper and let it seat in a secure position and out of the way.
9. Remove two 17mm bolts that hold the caliper bracket and take the bracket out.
10. Follow the emergency/parking brake remove procedures available in this forum
11. Slide a flat tip screw driver and push down to unlock the abs sensor plug and push it out slowly.
12. Carefully secure the abs plug
13. Remove 10mm bolt the hold the abs sensor.
14. Carefully remove the ABS sensor using a flat tip screw driver
15. Remove two 10mm bolts that hold the parking/emergency cable and slide it out.
16. Remove four 17mm nuts that hold the wheel axle
17. The axle should slide out very easy so carefully slide it out
18. Remove the old oil seal
19. Lubricate the new seal with some grease and tab it in carefully per picture
20. Take the axle and parts to machine shop(cost me $60 per a side to have them professionally pressed)
21. Remove the old O ring and clean up the area before install the new O ring.
22. The new bearing hub is using magnetic core instead of toothed sensor ring per pictures
23. Install the ABS sensor first
23. Slide the axle in carefully not to touch anything especially the oil seal
24. Torque 4 17mm bolts 160ft/lb. I torque my up to 180ft/lb
