Default AC compressor grumbling

My AC compressor has been making noise only when i turn on the AC. And it also is now not cooling so well. Wondering if the refrigerant could just be low? Has anyone else had theirs make noise like this?

Low 134 makes the compressor short cycle or not engage at all. If it's making noise while on, it's probably the clutch going out on the compressor.

Yeah its at the dealership now. They said the refrigerant is low and the compressor is bad. Wondering what happened first now. They said bad compressors are not common.

I would try and just put the refrigerant at the correct level and see what happens before replacing the compressor, but it sounds like that train has already left the station.

Refrigerant leaks are pretty common, compressor replacements aren't common at all.

why buy used when you can buy a new denso oem or similar online for around 300$ but keep in mind you should also change the condensor evaporator and everything else involved within the ac system.

I have a bad AC compressor on my 2008 GX. Being it is winter i may wait a few weeks to replace. However, while I'm in replacing the compressor I wanted to see if there is anything else i need to consider addressing at the same time. I don't mind replacing if it is needed but don't want to throw extra $$ at things just because.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
