Smile Do you notice 35 hp difference - 2004 vs 2005

Looking at purchasing a 2004 GX470 with 131K miles on it. I read most all the differences in the 2005 and the only thing that might influence me to hold out is the additional HP. Can you tell the difference? I have specs for 2003 0-60 in 8.3 secs while a 2007 0-60 is 7.1 secs. I couldn't find the 2005 0-60 times. Any help would be appreciated.

Ya, it makes a difference, especially if you plan on running bigger tires or towing with the truck. With the bump in power comes the recommendation to run premium fuel, smog pump/air injection system, and higher purchase price. Whether it's worth it to you I can't say.

i'd think with this size of this truck, torque figures would be more important since you have to get all that weight going... once it gets going though, its a brick flying down the road and momentum will keep you going... I never driven the pre vvti model so can't remark on whether or not it would make a difference...

I can't speak for the VVTI as I have an 04' but I'm at higher altitude in Colorado and have plenty of power. 34hp is around what you pick up from aftermarket exhaust and intake on vehicles and that's usually not a noticeable difference. Plus, using 87 octane is nice instead of premium.

Lexus list the 0-60 spec for all its model years, 2003-2009 to be 8.1 secs. I have driven both engines, if there is a difference you can't tell by driving them, as though your butt might be able to discern a 1 sec difference in a 5000lb truck. I wouldn't use the engine as the deciding factor. There are other changes over he years that would make for a more persuasive argument, Bluetooth, back up camera, navigation to name a few, and as mentioned, the octane requirement. Around here 87 octane can be found at 2.49 at name brand stations, Shell, BP, Exxon but 93 is still going for 3 bucks.

Having ridden in my co-workers 2003 and owning my 2006, I feel no difference that's real. The butt-o-matic sensor always thinks it can feel something (How do you think those stickers add so much horsepower to rice burners?) but in reality the difference just isn't enough to feel much. If the price is right, buy the newer one and you'll be happy with it longer. That said, if the price is even MORE right on the older one and it's in decent shape, go that route...

that goes back to my torque comment... since the tq ratings didn't change, it makes sense that the 0-60 times stayed flat...

not sure where you are in NJ, but the Costco had Premium for $2.65 yesterday!!! I wanted to fill up all my cars...

thanks, i usually stick with the Top Tier suppliers, and the only car that gets premium is my Miata and motorcycles, so its not that much of a financial issue...the GX gets regular. I see them lining up for gas at the costco in wayne.

Costco gas is Top Tier now.

The lines at the costco gasoline in Edison are insane, unless you go fairly early in the morning.

Not sure how noticeable but I would go with the highest possible. My '05 drives nice. Personal choice, but I highly recommend finding one without the factory navigation - it's archaic. I investigated > 30 before finding a super clean GX with NO Nav. Mine has an aftermarket double DIN with bluetooth & rearview camera.
