extended warranty on 2004 GX470?
Hi all,
Just purchased a 2004 GX470 from the Lexus dealer; one owner car, all services up to date, car was babied and just gone through, 125k miles. They offered me a 2/24k extended warranty that is most everything except electronics for $1600.
What are your thoughts? In general, I try to steer clear of these warranties, but $800/year sounds really cheap on a 10-year old car. I am used to BMW warranties being $1500/year after 60k miles on something like an X5, you can't even get a warranty on a car this old.
Are GX470's just that reliable? Usually extended warranties sold at reputable dealers tend to pay up in normal circumstances. But I will pocket the $1600 if it is a waste of money.
Super impressed with the car! You would never guess it has 125k miles and is 10 years old. Only thing it is missing is a backup cam! The stereo is audiophile quality, it sounds 7/10 as good as my very good 2-channel setup at home. I was a BMW guy, but the combination of reputational reliability and lack of depreciation has me pretty much sold. Not to mention that all of these cars are one-owner cars. Most BMW's are leased and are not as well taken care of.
And $15,500 seemed like a very reasonable price for such a well kept car that was fully loaded with every option.

If you have the means, go for it. Within 2 months and 800 miles after acquisition of '03 87k miles GX, I have spent $1400 out of pocket already.

Just a suggestion - if you decide to go with the warranty try & find one that covers also the electronic & 'technology' items not just the the engine & drivetrain, etc. There's as much cost risk for those items as the mechanical stuff. You can always shop around for non-dealer places to do mechanical work but most of the elctronic items are dealer only & can be expensive. And the GX has a lot of electronic/luxury items!

Even though the car was meticulously inspected by reputable indie garage, the air suspension went nuts. Remove/replace air compressor and then 1 month later the air bag. I am sure some sensors will go bad sooner or later.

You realize you replied to an almost 2-year old post, with info that isn't applicable to the GX?
