Bilstein 4600 or 5100??
Time to replace my shocks. Trying to figure out whether to go with the 4600's or the 5100's all around.
From what I found on the forum, the 4600 are for stock height but the 5100 can be used as well.
The 5100 seem to be used by those that have a lift, but I'm not lifting the truck just yet, though I am trying to plan for that eventuality. I intend to get springs all around for a slight lift when the air spring components fail.
Can anyone confirm that 5100's can be used at STOCK height without damaging the shocks?
Thanks for your input.

Yes, they can be used and have a nicer finish than the 4600s. The only thing I'm not certain of, and it probably isn't an issue, is if the 5100s have more travel and could cause an issue dislodging an airbag at max articulation. I believe the shocks limit the downward travel so if the 5100s have more travel they could, potentially, cause an issue. I'm sure somebody can clarify that and I haven't heard of an issue.

Yes 5100s can be used at the stock ride height. Just set the spring perch to the 0" notch.
If you're eventually going to lift you might as well spend the little extra money on the 5100s now than waste money on the 4600s.

Any Bilstein that will fit a 120 4Runner will fit our GX. FJ will also work.

Thanks guys.....I'm going with the OME on the front and will probably do the 5100's for the rear. My air bags seem to be working OK for now so i'll hold off on the springs.

I had 5100s all around on my 1st gen DC Tundra and had the fronts set to the 2" perch. It rode great, stiffer than stock but stock was a little too soft for my taste anyway.

From installation notes, 1st perch will only give .85", if I go to 2nd perch to get approx 1.75", will it increase the preload too much and create a harsher ride?
Seems to be a bit of a waste over OEM to just get a .85" increase if ride suffers too much and I don't plan to do a lift
Thank you RCsGX

If you're not planning on lifting the rear why would you want to lift the front 1.75"? The .85" notch is the most you can go w/ the rear at the stock ride height. If you go any higher in the front you will have a reverse rake and your front will be higher than the rear.

For the price of 1 OEM front shock you can buy a pair of front 5100s.
The rear you save even more money. For the price of 1 OEM rear shock you can buy front AND rear 5100s. That's a no brainier.
