Factory Chrome rims peeling
Anybody else having a problem with the factory chrome wheels peeling?
Does anybody have a list of recalls for my 2005 GX470?

Pitted wheels
Thanks for the info. It’s a shame that a company that wants to be spoken in the same sentence with BMW, Mercedes, and Cadillac has a funky attitude with the defective wheels and will not offer any reasonable solution. I think I'll leave them like this and show off the excellent quality that Lexus produces.

Not intending to just play with words but I didn't know Lexus even offered factory chromed wheels on any model but only factory wheels chromed by a local vendor. The only car I ever had with factory chromed wheels was a 2002 Infinity and they were nice. I have always had my wheels chromed and the only time any chrome came off the dealer quickly checked all four wheels and then replaced the flaking wheel which just happened to be the never used spare.
And with the use of a local wheel vendor competing on price chrome peeling might happen but I would expect the Lexus dealer to have enough influence to always get the wheels replaced for a customer without any argument.

Not sure if Lexus has the same distributor (sales, not electrical) model as Toyota. Many years ago, JM Family Enterprises got an exclusive arrangement to import Toyotas to the southeastern US, and set up Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC.
As a result, they get to specify the configuration of the models they sell. Which is why leather seats on a Tacoma sold in that area are always aftermarket - STD doesn't order them that way.
Chrome wheels may (this is speculation) might be a distributor add-on, and so not "factory", yet commonly available because they get added at the vehicle prep center.

^ I don't think that holds true for our GX or Lexus in general. Anyone could upgrade to chrome wheels.
Toyota uses to sell X-SP Tundra packages w/ special badging, leather, wheels etc. and you could only get those down south since it was a SET (South-East Toyota) add-on type of program.

Chrome rims peeling
2004 Lexus RX330 with factory chrome wheels
I slightly hit a curb yesterday and just chipped the edge of the rim where the tire bead is. After checking it I found that the chrome plating was starting to lift off of the alloy rim. Chip was only 1/4 inch but the edge was sharp. If I had the car washed it would have cut the guys hand cleaning the wheels and also the peeling would get worse. I went to Pep Boys and bought the 2 part clear epoxy and mixed a small amount and put it on the chip and peel. After working it in you could barely tell that anything happened and it sealed it so it wouldn't peel more. Just thought I would share with the rest of you.
