Reversed Polarity Boost - Backwards Jump Start
Thought I'd mention this in case this occurs to anybody else.
Story: My wife borrowed my car to do road trip to Vancouver Island and on the way back left the lights on when she parked on the ferry. When trying to depart my beautiful wheels would not start. Some rookie BC Ferry deckhand decided to help which was nice.... NOT NICE......he hooked up the battery charger with the poles reversed and fried my car.
A tow to Lexus and a $750 bill - everything was fixed. If this every happens to anybody here is what Lexus found that was needed to repair.
- New Battery ( Old battery kept failing test )
- 2 90982-09013 Fuse
- 1 90982-09013 Fuse
- 1 90982-09009 Fuse
- 1 90982-08286 LINK.FUSABLE
- 1 90982-08283 Fuse
Parts $$274.75 + Labour $462.00 = $736.75
Back on the Road.
NOTE: Making a claim to BC Ferries.

How can anyone f that up?
Most cars, including our GX, uses a red cover over the positive and black cover over the negative. If they don't use covers the positive lead is usually a red wire. If both leads are black the battery is marked with a + for the positive and - for the negative.

I did the same thing but was able to fix it myself after a lot of homework. I wanted to share my fix since I didn’t see the whole story of the correct fix. Got the check engine/vsc/antislip lights as well my ISF went into limp mode. I plugged in the odb and received the P2118 code. I did some homework and everything pointed me to the fusible link which is located near the battery. I called the dealer and told them what I did and the error code I received. They talked to their tech guy and agreed that was the issue. I hen limped it to a nearby shop and hid them install the link ( my confidence was shot so I didn’t do it myself. The shop installed the part and the error didn’t clear. The shop didn’t know what else to do so I was resigned to schedule a tow to the dealer and drop anywhere from $1k to $2k. At the last second, I found a thread on this forum that I cannot find again. In that thread, it was pointed out that there are two fuse boxes. The type a box near the battery AND the type b box by the drivers side headlight. I only had to replace the #10amp ECS fuse and everything cleared right away. There is a spare fuse in the box! Hope this helps someone else out
