Default Axle/CV boot failure, dealer fix cost

I was under the car yesterday changing my front brakes, when I noticed excess grease on the frame and A arms. So now my question is, how much is this going to cost me at the dealership for the front axles both sides? I'm in the process of moving my family to the East, otherwise I'd do it myself. Thanks

Looks like its just Boot failure. The boots just ripped. You can probably get both boots replaced at any shop for 150 per side. Dealeships might make you replace the whole axle which those axles arent cheap from the dealer

Get it done ASAP, once all the grease flys out dirt and crap get in there you will be looking at Axle replacement instead of just boots!!

Had a boot replaced on my Honda. The repair shop had a device that blows the new boot onto the axle OVER the CV joint. Magic! They just had to remove one side of the axle to do this. Took only a few minutes and was very inexpensive. Get some estimates.

Got the CV split boots and it does the same job without even having to remove any of the front wheel axle or the tires and other stuff. Just have it cleaned with grease cleaners and have them fitted. Total time 45 mts. they are on ebay. I had got them from OZ. Similar fits to the Prado ( younger siblng to the GX ).

I just paid for this to be done at the dealer. Boot kit was $50, but labor was $395. Plus some shop fees for the grease, etc. To just put a new axle on was going to be $200 more (the higher parts cost more than made up for lower labor costs it seems).

The split-boot repair kits have a reputation for not lasting all that long -- the part naturally flexes as you take corners, and the adhesive doesn't hold after a while.

Agree, that's why I didn't mention split boots in my post. Tried one on a VW Bug with very poor results. Learned to replace the VW boots along with repacking the CV joints with moly grease (by hand). That's a 2 jumbo rolls of paper towels kinda job.

The split boot just looks like a failure waiting to happen.

For anyone doing this yourself google Porsche 930 boot mod...a lot of Tundra guys use those and they hold up better than our OEM boots do.

It has been over 2 years, and perfectly working fine. I dont see what guys hear, you have one here using it. It all depends on how the installation is done perfectly on the first time.

Well, $856 later I have new front axle boots. Both inboard and outboard, although I specified just the outboard ones that I actually observed torn. Oh well...glad I'm moving away from this stealership.

I wonder if it would have been cheaper to just replace the drive shafts with reman, boots and all? The reason I say this is that the shafts would have been fully removed anyway and the extra labor to replace the boots on the existing shafts.

That's what I did rebuilt Toyota axles with boots, 100 each, 150 to put them in.

Do I need an alignment done after remove and replace the axle?
I think the tie rod needs to seperate so I think ian alignment is needed even if the original axle is put back
