Default Hairline Cracks in Wheel Paint

Just noticed this recently in the last couple months and it's getting worse. Only on the left front wheel. The other wheels look fine. There are no other problems with the wheels - no pitting, no corrosion, etc. When you rub your fingers over the cracks, it's smooth, indicating the cracks are not with the clear coat but with the powder coat below? The vehicle has always lived in the southern US. 67k miles. The wheels are torqued to 83 lbs as per manual.

Has anyone else seen or experienced this and what may be causing it ?

If its just on one wheel sounds like defective powder coat or paint etc.

If it continues to get worse, or just plain bothers you, there are places that can refinish the wheel for you as opposed to replacing it for buku $$$. They work wonders too, you should even be able to notice that anything was ever wrong with it.

Thanks. It does bother me. I think I will keep an eye on it for a few months, see if any other wheels develop the cracks, then see if I can get it refinished.

If you do a Google search for "alloy wheel refinishing in (your city or state)" or "alloy wheel repair in (your city or state", you are likely to find multiple sources of this kind of work. Often, the technicians who do this kind of work, like the paintless dent guys and interior repair guys, work a few days a month at various dealerships. If you talk with the service manager or body shop manager at a dealer, he/she is likely to be able to tell you when they work at that dealership, but, if you find them on your own and contact them on your own, you can often meet up with them somewhere where they are working and save some money because the dealership won't be taking a cut if you work directly with the technician.
