Default Seat Warmer Light Bulb

I'm a new 2006 GX owner as of Monday. I have to give a big thanks to RCsGX for helping me diagnose my "Day Mode" nav screen trouble. I thought I'd pass along a small fix I did today.

My driver's side seat warmer backlight was out. There's a great writeup by Tightlinez here https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...placement.html

After removing the switch and then removing the bulb, I took a trip to Radio Shack. I bought this:

Radio Shack item #272-1092 - Micro Lamp (2 pack)

Here is what the bulbs look like:

Carefully remove the old bulb from it's plastic housing. Here are the two bulbs side by side:

Remove the green rubber cap from the old bulb:

Place the green cap onto the new bulb and carefully wind the leads into the housing:

Be sure to trim the wires, then you can reinstall the new bulb and housing back into the switch and you're back in business.

There you go, a $1 fix. I hope this helps someone.

Nice, I've never seen anyone do this before...very ingenious!

You might want to put your threads link in Tightlinez thread since they go hand in hand. Your mod sure beats paying $5+ for bulbs from the dealer!

Thanks Roemer,

My Differential lock switch next to the warmer is out. I was thinking of changing it to red color like RC . I was just too lazy to order red from the net, but for $1, and local trip to RS, I will tackle this tomorrow. I have nothing to do on my truck, I guess I will do this..

Thanks again, I wish there was a red cap also at RS instead of using old green.

RC,

I am going to try doing this with RS bulb, I know you changed it RED, and I really like it, did you buy the red bulb or just the cap? Also, can I just pull the switch out with trim tool for the diff lock switch?

I replaced the filament bulb with a red LED and yes you can remove the diff lock switch from the top just like the seat heater with a trim tool or your finger.

Thanks, I was able to pull out with my 2 fingers, I saw the link of the red bulb, I put it on back burner, thinking I iwll change other bulbs to whiter.

Now I see this RS bulb and I will give it a shot.

Went to Radio Shack and changed them out, very easy pulled the switch out with the fingers, and swap the bulbs, green cap on and trimmed the extra wires. works well.

Thank you OP and Rc.
