Question 110V Outlet in the Cargo Area

Hi All,

Does anyone know where the relay (modify to run with ignition off) and the actual inverter are physically located for the 110V AC outlet in the cargo area is?

Also, I haven't pulled the manual yet, but is the 110V on its own separate fuse? I might trace back the wiring to see if I can upgrade both the wiring and replace the inverter itself to support more than 100W. I noticed there's ample space in the engine compartment for a second battery so I might go ahead and install a second battery with a spare Hellroaring Battery Separator I've had laying around for a while which I never installed into my previous vehicle and just go ahead and wire it directly to a replacement inverter.

Any help and information is greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Kermee

The relay is behind the fuse box (on the bottom left to the steering wheel). You'd need to take the lower panel off to get access.

I hopefully will be doing this modification this weekend (full time 12V and 110V outlets) and will try to put up a write up

Below is a great write-up for this mod on a 4Runner. I believe that it applies to 1st Gen GX as well.

Been thinking of this mod for a while now, I got some other more pertinent issues to attend this weekend in regards to repairs but a write up on this mod would be really appreciated!

The 4Runner write up is spot on for a 1st Gen GX. Love having the constant 12V power up front and the ability to run the 115 outlet on the third row without the car running.

Thumbs up

Hi All,

Thanks for all the great info! I haven't had a chance to do the mod yet, but looking forward to doing it soon, and then some!

Very neat mod. Anyone have any practical experience running items on the outlets without the engine going - any thresholds or dangers in running down the car battery?
