Hey all,

I have noticed a randomized clicking sound coming from under my steering wheel around the pedal area. It sounds electrical, not mechanical.

Any ideas????

I too had the same problem for months, Finally nailed the problem as we all are used to the quite ride. The popping click noise is come from the Air Mix Servo Damper. They Servo Motor is slowly failing. The good news is that is can annoy you a long time before it fails completely. To fix the problem you need to remove the unit which is behind the steering wheel and Lower dash. And clean the contact points, I used Graphite Grease to lubricate, any other grease would make it rigid for the motor to rotate. Get to the Sewell website and locate the above part you will know the location. It is a very delicate job as the motor is very small in nature. Cheers

Hello mann777, I too have that clicking noise periodically (2003 GX). What would happen if this were to fail completely?
I am very naive when it comes to finding things on cars and fixing them, can you please elaborate on what you did to fix the noise.

yes u have to pull the dash...its right above the climate control assy to the right of the gauge cluster.
The Driver Side P/N is 87106J -Lexus OEM Damper Servo Sub-Assy
It was around $120 then . For CL Member you will have to log into sewell and get that extra discount.
If all fails, what you are going face is the low pressure Air flow. And not the proper flow of Air temp. You will have hot air while the AC is on.

It is not the best space to work but if you are thinner size, and you can crawl up the Gas pedal side and look way up and you would be able to see. It has just got one harness connected, detach that and you can unscrew it. But the best way is pull out your cluster after you have lowered your steering collumn and that is that is ideal to get the bugger out.

What's best to clean the contacts, and where would I need to grease it? Thanks again for your help and time.

I am sure there is a thread on how to remove the gauge cluster, I will check. While its out, maybe change the needles color .

I took this photo above gas pedal ( pictured below ). My sister 2006 GX470 develop the same symtom, I might try to do this under without removing the cluster. So, remove 2 screws and one connector correct? thanks Mann77.
