Bad Speedo??? Help!!!

Hey guys,

Got an 04 GX 470 and just today i was driving home and my speedo was on 0, while i was driving.

HELP!!! This happened a little last year but then it just sort of went away.

When I turn the car on all the other needles flicker, and seem to struggle to idk turn on. But after what appears to be they all pop up into place. Except for the speedo!

Anyone else have this problem? Please Club Lexus save me from having to spend $$$$$

Could be loose wires...

TopGear300 05-22-12 02:08 PM

i was thinking/hoping the same thing.

Can anyone point me to the right ones to play with on the GX?

I'm pretty sure it could be the wires to the Speedo
no 2004 Lexus speedo would fail that early....
In my opinion at least

Well yes but to my understanding they connect to the transmission some how?

You can't unfortunately reach around the cluster and jiggle the cables, as much as I wish it was that easy!

Well, it started working again today after about a week of guessing how fast I was driving and "keeping up with traffic" :uh:

Can anyone explain maybe there maybe something loose to my dash board. Why would it temporarily not work last year and start working again for a year, almost to date, and then develop the same "illness" and get over it :egads:

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thank you :D

electrical gremlins are always the worst, especially in the case of loose wires. One bump may fix it, another bump messes it up.

YES THEY ARE!! GRRR

What should I fiddle with? Could it be a fuse or a connector? Maybe a cable?

you could start with the speedo sensor, which I assume is located at the rear wheels, and then work your way all the way up to the speedo itself.

Get yourself a good multimeter and you might consider purchasing a little time on the TIS website to download wiring diagrams to help you out.

Ok thanks for the tips! Any links to buy a good multimeter? I don't have one

Oh and get one that has an auto-off feature. 9 times out of 10 I'll forget to switch it to OFF and the next time I need it I have to replace the battery.

Thanks for the help!
