Gx470 Brakes issue
Hey everyone!
I just recently got 2008 gx470 as a college graduation present in May. Very exciting having a GX as my first "real" car!!
After driving a few months, I have noticed that my brakes are acting a little funny. Whenever I brake, the car seems to "skip" until I come to a complete stop. It's not a very serious problem, but more of an annoyance.
I took it to the dealership and they told me that my rotors are "warped" and need to be shaved down. They quoted me for 600-700 dollars for the fix...
Have any of you had the same problems?
Sorry if this is a noob question
Edit: I just hit 43k miles

rotors dont warp per say, they'll accumulate material at different location that will make them appear as though they've warped.
Honestly though, if they are going to charge you THAT much just to have em turned, I'd get brand new oem rotor blanks and install them myself for less than half of that cost.
If you've got a socket set , a car jack and a lug wrench you'll be able to change your rotors in about 15 minutes a wheel. You should go ahead and get new pads too, not too much more in parts cost and you can ensure your pads and rotors get bed in correctly.
check here for different bed-in procedures from different brake pad manufacturers. Bedding in is one of the best things you can do to improve brake service life.

That is purely over priced...just had all four rotors turned, new pads and shims installed, ALL FOR 500.00 and that was done at the dealership!!!!!! Plus a free loaner and car wash.

- it being deposits and not "warping", though it doesn't reall matter in the end. To fix it you either need to replace or turn the rotors. and
- the price your dealer quoted you being laughably high.
My dealer charged me ( if I'm recalling correctly ) $200 per axle to fix my warped/bungled rotors. I thought that was quite reasonable.
I'd try your local toyota dealer for a quote. Our brakes are the same as the Toyota 4runner Sport of the same vintage. Or, do a bit of research and DIY. Easy job.

Here is the DIY if you need, Find a good skimming / Lathe shop and follow the DIY and you could save the dollars, if you need to the other way other than the dealer. Here is the DIY for the front wheel and it is quite similar for the Rear. Hope this helps.

Mine is also an '08 w/23k mi and the stealership turned my rotors under warranty.
"Warped" rotors are a known / frequent issue with the GX.
Too heavy for the size brakes spec'd from the factory.
My service writer confirmed it when I asked.
Yours might still be under warranty, too. Good luck.
