Smile 2003 GX 470 hitch receiver

We have finally decided that putting the bikes in the back of the truck with all the camping gear has gotten old. We want a hitch and bike rack. We have seen many GX's with the hitch from the factory and would like to go in that direction but not completely. The lexus dealer wants $500+ for a hitch and they were not sure of how much the labor would be. Forget it. $$$ I called Toyota, they were not sure if a toyota hitch would fit. I saw a few threads about hitches, but wanted to be specific with a 2003. I would rather have one that fits like the factory one to keep the ground clearance. I realize I would have to get the plastic bumper part from Lexus which may be a small fortune...?? Any advice/ knowledge would be appreciated.

I have an '03. If your looking to just use it for bike rack then get PT228-60100..that's what I have..if your planning to tow, you'll need a lot more stuff.

I'm planning to tow a boat at some point and bought a variety of additional parts that I have yet to install with exception of the hitch.

I prefer OEM hitches personally. You have a couple of options.

1) Intergal hitch and you can order the bumper cover painted as an option.

http://lexus.sewellparts.com/accesso...2003/4229.html

2) Class IV under mount/tow hitch, no bumper insert required.

Sewell Parts is a Club Lexus sponsor/vedor. As a CL member you will receive a discount if you register. As an example you can get item 1 with the bumper cover w/notch painted shipped for $245.

Sewell has a great price and have it installed by local U-haul, not Stealership.

just to clarify, PT228-60100 is an OEM part...description of it is..Genuine Tow Hitch 2010/2011 GX460 Hitch its a direct bolt on.

The integral hitch is smaller and a better option if your just using it for a bike rack.

not impressed yet. we purchased the OEM pintle hitch. Sewell said any monkey can install it. Wrong answer. No instructions or info were included. As far we can see the bumper needs to come off. the dealer wants $250 to install the hitch. UHaul will not do because it is not their hitch. Toyota does not have a clue. we are in san diego...any ideas?

It is something that can be done without much hassle if you have a few basic sockets and are willing to work under the rear of the car.

See my post for info & and link to a posting from member jditom with pics. This should help you decide if you can do it yourself:

Good luck!
