Finally broke down and swapped in my other head unit, ending a year long period of having no stereo in my truck! And it worked! Ordered another SD card with factory firmware to repair the other head unit, and I'll stick that in the Land Cruiser. It's wild that both of them suffered the same failure, a corrupted SD card with the firmware on it!

Got to test out the capabilities in the snowstorm we are having here in the Midwest. Blasting past Wranglers and pick ups through 2 foot snow drifts. Feels invincible.

obviously the GX has a strong off-road pedigree but I was still pleasantly surprised and how handily it wheeled around town today in some pretty heavy snow and wind.

Going to swap out the clear covers. The back sides have film on them that will not come off and one has scratches that just will not come out.
Need some amber pod fog lights next. Prepping before the Raptor Liner paint.....coming soon!!!

The interior recolor continues a piece at a time. Mostly finished off the drivers door card this weekend.

Fortunately it isn't actually too difficult work, just need to pop some tabs, pull a few screws, and you're off the to races on most pieces. Most of the trim inside is a 5-10 minute job to remove, 10-15 minutes to prep, and then a few coats of either ColorBond LVP or in the case of the trim, a custom mixed gold I made with some matte clear on top. I did the door card and all the trim bits in about 2 hours the other morning, which included removal, prep, reassembly, and install. The goal is black lower pieces, gold trim, and then the BMW cinnamon for the upper pieces. I tried wrapping a few things with some micro suede/Alcantara but it didn't stick very well to the gooey rubber/foam of the upper pieces.

I want to fix the seats this weekend.

Dreading the dash repair/refinish though...

More progress today. Refinished the center console, fixing a couple things, coloring black to match, changing rear AC butttons to gold… I took out my DVD player so there’s more room for kids snacks and nose wipes. Removed the DVD controls and sealed up that compartment so now it’s a little storage cubby.

I removed the lid for the cupholder and now have a perfect little slot for my phone to fit in too.

I also decided to wrap my door armrests in microsuede which I love. Definitely looking to do more with that material if I can.

Hi !
Recent 2012 GX 460 owner here, scanning the threads, haven't been in the forum for years since I sold my SC430.
I am interested in upgrading some lighting but always put a cheap ebay LOUD two trumpet horn in all my cars but they dont seem to last very long.
(maybe I use it a lot since these retirees in FL where I live now are incapable of turning right regardless if theres no traffic in sight for miles!)
There seems to be plenty of room behind the grill, do you have a suggestion for a super loud horn?
I only have experience with the cheapies, and I don't think the ones with the full-on air compressor and tank is necessary, although I have heard some on monster lifted full size pickups and they definitely get your attention more than a freight train!

Did the bedliner thing the other day and made a vinyl overlay for my front badge.

Also refinished my front seats and patched up the bolster hole. Not a perfect pro job but good enough for me.

Changed U joint on rear driveshaft going to rear differential. Was making a bad clunk and causing vibrations. I think I got my money’s worth out of this joint…

Q: Did you use aftermarket? DIY? Could you expand a bit on details? I have replaced a front drive shaft due to a faulty u-joint and would like to repair it.
Any advice would be appreciated!

I used MOOG 387. This U joint was coming apart as you can see.

I rented a Ball Joint C Press from advance auto but I had trouble with it holding on due to the taper on the yoke flange. I ended up using a socket and a hammer to press the joints in and out. I would recommend using a strong vise if you access to one.

if I did this again I would still use hammer/socket to press out. But then probably vise with a socket to press the new one in.

just remember that after you get snap rings set, to push the caps out so the rings press against the inside of the yoke. This will give you the best rotation in your joint.

Replaced the front passenger side window door molding. Like the driver's side that I did a few months ago, the rubber seal started to tear and let rain into the door.

P/N is 75711-60080 and is no longer available from the dealer (although they'll try and you'll wait 2+ months for nothing). They're available on eBay as both a NOS (new old stock) and Chinese reproduction.
I ordered an original from autopartsworlds for $90 shipped.

If you're replacing your first molding, go ahead and order the set of four that they have listed - you'll save money (vs buying individually) and have them on hand when the next one fails.
