Default 60k service

Hey friends,
We just hit 60,000 miles on our truck. Needed some advice on the 60k mile service. Does it matter if I get the service done at a Lexus dealership or Toyota? My understanding is Toyota may charge less for the same things. Does the timing belt need to be replaced? Is it better to follow the guidelines listed in the manual or are somethings unnecessary? TIA for your assistance.

Thank you everyone for the information. It has been quite interesting to see prices I have been quoted.
(1) The Lexus dealership quoted $650
(2) One Toyota dealership quoted $450
(3) Another Toyota dealership quoted $360

I compared the list and asked them for the same things to compare apples to apples. I guess you do get a loaner and car wash from Lexus that you wouldn't from a Toyota dealership. Is it safe to go with the Toyota dealership?

A bump to the top as I am also interested in using a local Toyota dealer for service. Any experiences to share?

No problem using toyota--they are all the same parts and same motor 4.7! I can find a ride and wash my own car for the $300 in savings

Take your list of what you want done to Toyota and save yourself some $. As Booyah said, all of the parts and fluids used at Lexus are the same used at the Toyota dealership.

I've had my oil changed, transmission fluid changed, diff fluids, chasis lube, brake pads and rotors all done at Toyota. I have to pay $.75 for a cup of a coffee but I could buy a really nice capaccino machine with the money I've saved.

NOTE,,, there is no need to change the transmission fluid at 60k mi as described in the list above unless you tow (Sprockets ) or off-road. The transmission fluid is good for the life of the vehicle.

Thanks guys and sorry to the OP for the hijack.

I emailed the service manager at the local Toyota dealer (which is right next door to the Lexus dealer, but different ownership). He stated he would be happy to do the work. He even mentioned the savings would be significant. I told him I wouldn't miss the fresh baked cookies!

Doing the 60K service at the stealer tomorrow. The initial quote over-the-phone was $655 without the diff fluids, which I replaced at 30K and will go until 90K before doing again since I don't tow or do anything crazy off-road.

With the factory power train warranty running out now, it's likely the last "major" service they do for me. It's too expensive not to use Independents for the biggies. However, I can (and do) rationalize $50-75 for oil changes because I get to drive one of the stealer's "new car" loaners. As an unrepentant car guy, I look forward to it plus it's super convenient.

$475 w/o diff fluids. I'm happy and appreciate my SA.

It's a good reminder that not at stealers steal as much as other stealers. Lexus of Frederick in CO was off the charts greedy whereas LHM in UT is generally good to go.

More importantly, my GX got another thumbs-up after being serviced.

Well, you could always walk next door and grab a cookie... Best of both worlds.
