DVD Rear Ent. system clarification
 

My wife and I are looking to buy a pre-owned 2005-07 GX with DVD rear entertainment. My question is this. Where is the actual dvd player in factory installed dvd systems? Are the discs inserted up top where the screen is located or in the console. I test drove an '05 at a local used car dealer and he said anything where the disc is inserted up top is aftermarket. Looking online, all systems after '05 appear to be up top. My wife prefers the player in the console.

the display is obviously mounted in the back for the kiddies to enjoy their movies. the actual DVD player is locted in between the front seats in the center console.

We ran into the same question. We wanted a factory DVD player and found they were pretty hard to find. We finally found one and happy we waited. The factory DVD player allows the kids to watch the navigation screen on theirs. Sounds trivial but for some reason on long trips they like to put it up on their screen when they bore of movies to see where we are in the trip.

Also the factory DVD player allows you, when in Park and Parking brake on, watch the movies they are watching on the navigation screen. There have been times we are waiting for someone and I would put the movie on the screen to kill some time.

Lastly, the factory screen just looks better. It is just a screen as the DVD player and inputs are in the rear of the center console. My friend has a aftermarket and it is a pretty large unit on the ceiling.

I have an 07 with factory DVD. You insert the DVD movies at the ceiling where the screen is. But it's a pretty slim unit. Also, with the 07, you cannot view the navigation map from the rear DVD screen - this was a change I believe in 07. You can still view the movies on the Nav screen when shifted to Park and handbrake applied.

That is too bad. I wonder why they changed them. It is so conveinent to have the player in the center console.
