04GX w/35k...$2200 for 100k warranty from carchex??? worth it???

I dont think lexus can offer me a warranty. Carchex was 6yrs/100k B to B with 0 deductible for $2200.

I just purchased an 04 with 44K and opted not to purchase a waranty. From what I've read on the forums you can purchase a Lexus Platinum warranty from Troy (do a search) for less than what you quoted. I had a 94 ES 300 that I put 132K on before I traded it in, the only issues I ever had with it (besides going through tires every 40K) were a few bulbs going out in the stereo lcd screen. I'm a firm believer in Lexus quality but I've put the money I would spend on a warranty in the bank, just in case. I look at it this way, the money is there if I need it, but it's still there if I don't. Companies wouldn't sell a warranty if they didn't make money on it or if they expect to have to pay out much on it.

I don't believe you can purchase a Lexus extended warranty after the vehicle falls out of the original warranty.

Issues with after market warranties are in the fine print. Often times there is a deductible and or they will not replace your parts with factory parts if there is an after market part available and when there isn't an after market part available they will likely only give a credit up to the amount they would have paid for an after market part. All of this kind of precludes you from having your vehicle serviced by Lexus. Also check to see how long the warranty company has been around. If they go under you're up the creek without a paddle and out $2200. Just to many hassles and risks IMO for the $ spent.

CSSNMS, is right. I called Troy, my GX is 2004 and once the factory warranty is expired you cannot buy extended factory warranty. Aftermarket warranty is available thru Mercury insurance too. They quoted me 3years for $1300 with 100 deductible. From what I heard its one of the best aftermarket insurance. They will give you shop of your choice.

I bought my '03 used, and got an aftermarket warranty (for the first time ever) from Universal Underwriters. It covered for me for 36 months or 75,000 total vehicle miles, and the truck had about 35,000 when I bought it.

The warranty was $1160, and I think I'm ahead of the game on it. There's no deductible if I take the truck back to where I bought it, but they aren't a Lexus dealer, and I don't like their service dept. I take it to a Lexus dealer instead, pay the $100 deductible, and I get a Lexus loaner.

Some of the bigger ticket items that the company has covered so far are both rear ride height sensors and both front calipers. I didn't check the service records, but I'm pretty sure those two repairs alone would have exceeded the $1160....even with the deductible.

I will try both of those companies. Carchex is basically a broker so they shop it out to the best company available. Only A and A+ BBB ratings get their business. Thanks!
