Default How is your Gas Mileage?

We've had our 04 GX470 for little over month now and just curious what you guys average. I know it depends on city/highway driving and how hard you drive. My wife averages 14.4mpg with 90city/10highway driving, so with full tank of gas she averages 220ish when light comes on and it takes about 18.5-19gal after few miles of driving after the light. am i doing okay? anything i should do to improve the gas mileage? it has 59k, and no major maintance such as 30k/60k were performed as of yet.

thanks,
Tae

I have an 04 and get about 16 in town and 20 or 21 on the freeway. In both cases I drive pretty conservatively - so sportier or faster would be a little less. I've read some people claim that higher octane fuel can improve mpg a little - my results are using 87 octane.

Cool Mileage of the GX470

I've got 82,500 miles on my 04 GX and have averaged 19.5 mpg. This is about 50-50 highway/city. On long highway trips I'll average 22-23 mpg.

How are you calculating your mileage? I've found the computer to be very close to 10% "high".

I've seen close to 20 on the freeway if i'm really careful, which is really 18. City mileage has been as low as 14-15, which is 13-14ish.

I average around 16 city and the best I've seen on the highway driving 55 mph (who drives 55 anyway) was 23. Usually I see around 19/20 highway on average.

As for service that might help mileage at 59k, change your engine filter and make sure your tires are inflated to the appropriate level - one of the the biggest killers of mileage and although there probably will not be measurable benefit make sure to change your differential fluids at 60k mi if it has not been done already.

Mid 15s in town with a tiny bit of highway driving thrown in for good measure.

I'm a little bit disappointed, but what's 1 more mpg going to do for me?! I knew it going in, but when you see it / experience it for yourself, it's different somehow. The 15.x is just a small number that's all.

Your GX is still brand new--once the engine breaks in more it should get a little better. My GX only has 215 miles on it and I know Im not gettting to much. I will be going on a small highway trip new years and will see what she does

Johnny--you MUST throw some HIDS on your GX--oh my god what a differance, it gives it that FINAL Lexus touch for sure!!!

Default Better Gas Mileage

I have an 04 GX470 that gets 14 - 15 MPG driving around ATL. A little better on longer highway trips, but nowhere near the 19+ MPG some folks are seeing. I am not a leadfoot. Any suggestions for upgrades, additives or changes that will improve the mileage?

I average around 19-20 on a tank. The high altitude definitely makes for better gas mileage in my experience, and it decreases when I take the rig down to the coast. All city is usually 16.5-17 and all highway closer to 21. I am a VERY conservative driver and am slightly OCD about fuel consumption.
