Satellite Radio - dealer feedback...
Dealer told that my 2006 GX will not be able to have satellite radio install - I wanted an integrated unit with my current Navigation screen. He said this available for 2007 onwards as they have a little "SAT-AM' button but they cannot install for 2006 or earlier......I checked around other dealers and same story. But I thought folks on this board had installed the satellite using lexus ..?
Has anyone installed in their GX in a 2006 model year or earlier GXs without any issues..if so, can you advise on what model# / install by dealer? I do not plan to install myself but wanted to get a unit that does not impact the current NAV screen etc

2006 GX and prior, dealer will only install satellite radio as an FM modulator unit. They charge a premium for it and it doesn't sound as good as an integrated unit. I have an '05 GX w/o satelite radio. Will get it with next new GX.

I installed a Lexus Sirius kit in my 2006 GX470. As I recall, it was the Lexus kit made for the LX, but it worked fine in the GX. To get the XM, you pressed the AM button. This would cycle through AM, XM 1 and XM 2. When I traded my 06 in for the 07, I removed it and sold it to a member on this board.
It was Lexus Part #PTS31-60050 Fit Kit and Part #PTS31-00052.
If you can look back on this board around early 2006, you can find photos of the installation.

2005 GX470 Aftermarket XM Radio
My dealer was going to charge large to install XM as aftermarket FM Modulator. From what I have read, it sounds like Vaistech is the way to go. Does anyone know if this affects the car's warranty? THX

got the Vaistech kit with Sirius and got it installed from a car stereo place...took 45 mintues for them - plug and play and integrates fully with Nav/ on screen selection etc....antenna on the roof runs discretely on the black rubber lining......
for warranty, it should have not effect as it is plug and play...
