is it true that the hybrid 5.1/7.1 disc won't work on a 2008 GX? I had it on my 2006 IS 350 and it worked fine.
On the IS, if the 7.1 disc was already installed once (meaning the firmware was already updated to 7.1), the fuse for the Nav unit had to be pulled after the 7.1 disc was ejected, and then the hybrid disc could be put in and it would program the Nav firmware to the 5.1 version but have the 2007 maps.
What would be the appropriate fuse to pull on the GX to try this? On the IS, it was TV-1. There is no similarly named fuse for the GX.

I just ordered version 8.1 for my Generation 4 Navigation system in my 2006 GX 470 from Sewell Lexus parts online site. They have an instant $49 discount and a rebate form you can download to get another $50 if you send your old disc in within 30 days. I preordered it yesterday. All models use 8.1 but you have to tell them what generation your navigation system is. Anything after my 2006 model is generation 5. Hope this helps you!!

I am not sure if the update for the Gen 4 systems will get rid of the "I Agree" button. for that amount of money, you could get the Vaistech SL2i adapter that has an option to get rid of the "I agree" button -- and you'd get the ability to use an Ipod directly with your audio system.

pop the disc out and look at it, takes like 10 sec. Move pass seat forward, from pass rear under the seat is nav dvd, pop little cover off and open to view the nav dvd

I believe you can see it through a menu - I think it was on a button labeled "DVD" on the INFO screen. Or just remove it from the player like Tdoll says.

It's under the front passenger seat. Like Tdoll said -
1. Remove the rear floor mat (makes it easier)
2. Slide the front seat all the way forward
3. Flip the cover down on the unit
4. Slide the eject button
Some aftermarket rear-seat entertainment DVD players get put there too (like the previous owner did with mine), so you might have to work around that. But the nav drive will be the one that says Lexus on it.

I would have never know where that was, and that the disk lives there permanently unless someone made that statement.
Now the next question: is this a multi disk system? the dvd set I have has two disks. one for east and one for west.

Negative, the OEM system is a single disc unit. Two DVD's are used to cover the entire USA. One for if you live on the East, one for the West. There is a illustration on the disc showing what states it covers so you can choose which one you will need. There are so many POI that one DVD cannot display them all, so they use two.

This seems that a trans Continental navigation would be troublesome.
Thanks again.
