Default $1100 Cup Holder

My son was getting out of the back seat and pulled his coat across the cup holder in the center console and broke it. The dealer said that I have to buy the whole arm rest for $1100. I can unzip the leather and there is two screws in the back that can be removed and the cup holder comes out. Has anyone replaced just the cup holder?

What cup holder are you talking about?

sounds completely unjustified. Really getting sick of this now. I did some searching and found this

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...up-holder.html
"Coffee87 - Sewell Lexus has it for $777 for ClubLexus members. Part number is 72840 assuming we are talking about the same part." I'm not sure if its still available.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...cupholder.html
Also if you got the time
"bauer26 - Fold the seat that has the cup holder up. From here you can see a plastic end cap that covers the hinge of the arm rest. To remove the end cap you need to look along the edge where the back of the seat panel meets the side of the seat where you will see a zipper that is tucked in. Untuck the zipper fabric giving you access to a zipper that is on the inside edge. Unzip the panels half way down. This gives you access to a phillips head screw that holds the end cap over the hinge. Unscrew that and slide the end cap towards the rear of the truck, the cap has a lip that rides along a rail causing you to need to slide towards the rear in order to prevent damaging the lip. Once you have the end cap off you have access to a #3/4 phillips head screw that holds the hinge mechanism together remove that and you should be able to remove the whole flip down armrest/cup holder assembly.

From there, Im not sure what is causing the cup holder to not open out. If there is something that is broken loose giving it a good shake may free it enough for you to get the cup holders out. At the least having the arm rest removed should provide you better leverage / more options to get the holders out.

To remove the actual cup holder assembly from the armrest requires the cup holders popped out and there are two to three screws at the rear of the cup holders on the underside. So until you get the holders popped out I don't believe there is a way to access them without damaging the rest of the armrest."

My .02 is to scour ebay for oem replacement. Worst case just grab some aftermarket ones if that's the price they're asking. Good luck

If you're talking about the 2nd row armrest cupholder, try here:

It appears the dealer is telling you the truth. The armrest is sold as one assembly and that includes the cupholder - part 72840. There is no part number (that I can find) for just the cupholder insert.

You can order one from Sewell for $800, which still sounds outrageous. http://lexus.sewellparts.com/oem-cat...X470-2005.html

Otherwise try a local salvage yard. They may let you scavange just the cup holder from a GX.

Well I'm not going to spend $800 on a cup holder. I'm sorry guys I've about had it with Lexus part prices. I'll just take it out and see if I can fix it.

I don't blame you, I wouldn't either.

Working in the insurance industry for the past 10 years, I can tell you it's not just Lexus that has overpriced parts. Especially on stuff like this. The manufacturers know you can't go to an aftermarket place for replacements.

Best of luck trying to fix it yourself. Don't rule out salvage yards as a plan B either.

It's the trim pieces of any car manufacturer that will kill your wallet, especially on Toyotas!

Did it just snap off?

The right side is broke. The area that folds down and holds the bottom of the can. It still pops in and out. Probably look at it this weekend. I think I can epoxy it. Might be ugly though.

Like I said JB Weld.

You can shape it then sand it down and paint it. If you do it right, it'll look like it's never been broken.
