I'm ready to buy a GX
I'm getting rid of my wifes Infiniti QX4 (no power, I literally have to push it up a hill!!)

I'm looking at 2005's but in Colorado most are listed in the low to mid $40k
range. Which I think is high. These cars don't seem to depreciate too fast.
The 2004's are a bit cheaper around $35k- 38K.
What is the big difference??? I think just horsepower right?

I want one fully loaded DVD, NAV, 3rd row etc.
Then again if I can get a good trade value and a decent price should I pull the trigger on a 2007?? Thanks for your repsonse.

I bought a fully loaded one in Oklahoma with NAV, DVD, 3rd row etc. w. 80k miles for 28k this week. Try autotrader.com and find a private party deal.

I picked up an 03 CPO with 41K miles and no RSES a year ago for $31,000. Timing is everything and don't be intimidated to negotiate your price. Lexus dealers are accustomed to having people walk in and sign a car for the retail price, but you can still find a bargain if you're patient.

Check Carmax as well. If you don''t mind driving to another state, they sometimes sell off some nice ones, but they won't be CPO.

Try the Lexus CPO Model Library when you're looking for differences between years. It lists (mostly accurately) them at the top of the 'new year' as changes from the prior year.

The difference is 35hp, 10 ft/lbs torque and the 2005 has a newer version of the NAV system. If you plan on adding Sirius radio, Ipod etc I would definately get the 2005. I have a 2004 and you won't believe how hard is is to get an integrated sirius radio into the thing. Also keep in mind that a 2005 will give you one more year under warrenty.

The prices you are quoting are high...remember that it only costs a few hundred bucks to ship a car accross the country. Check eBay, cars.com, CarMax etc. Have a third party mechanic look over the car and if you can save 4-5 grand it may be worth it.

The other addition that I want to add along with everyone else have mentioned is the bluetooth with the nav/ML system.

Brother in law had a qx4. Transmission died at about 100k and sold it after it was fixed. Pretty reliable truck, but sooooo weak and such a gas pig for an anemic truck. I believe it was like 168hp or so???

If you can wait for the 2008 model, it's suppose to get some minor facelift and other options. 2007 might not be a great deal yet since there is no "official" release yet from the dealer.

I'm reviving this thread since I'm looking at getting a GX soon. I'm leaning toward the '05 since I understand it has some more hp and updated (?) Nav system but I'm seeing many more '04's for sale so want to dig a bit more.

1. In a truck this heavy, is the added hp in the '05 noticeable?
2. How much different is the Nav?

Any other pertinent info? TIA!

I think the power is noticeable, and the '05+ may even get a bit better fuel economy as well.

I have an '04, and if I had to do it again, I'd skip the nav altogether and put an aftermarket stereo w/ nav in the truck. It's a 9 year old nav system, and it shows its age, updated maps can't change that. I'm not sure what the '05+ nav is like, you'd have to try it and see if you like it.

The 05+ do get a mile or two better mileage, but also require premium, so there's no financial benefit.

+1 on the navi. The integrated junk is what's keeping me from ripping it all out in favor of after market.

Straight from the 2005 owners manual:

"Select Octane Rating 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher. For improved vehicle performance, the use of premium unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating of 91 (Research Octane Number 96) or higher is recommended."

'05 is worth the jump, Bluetooth, gen4 Nav., better engine fuel system to name a few.
W/o Nav. is not a big deal, some feel there are better aftermarket options out there.
Being that the GX engine is the same compression engine as the Tundra, V8 4Runner, and Sequoia to name a few that run on regular unleaded, don't waste money on premium unleaded. The engine is not a high compression engine, no need for higher octane. Lexus recommends premium unleaded to qualify the GX as a ULEV II (Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle II).

Do those Toyota trucks put out the same hp rating as the GX? In other words, is prem gas worth a few hp over std grade petrol?
