It's a Passport X50. I've had Valentine, but prefer the Escort products for my use.

For BEST detection, it should be mounted at the front windshield. Higher is better than lower... the laser sensitivity does not seem to be effected by the blue strip at the top of the windshield.
But even if it did, it wouldn't matter much and I wouldn't change the location... by the time your detector goes off for laser, it's too late, anyway. I would rather have the increased radar sensitivity.

I wouldn't mount one at the rear of the vehicle. Most times the radar will be coming from the front of the vehicle. I don't even know if detectors are legal in Canada - you need to research that yourself. Last time I checked, they were ILLEGAL in most provinces.

Default My personal favorite Radar detector is the Valentine V1 (m)

Perhaps the best unit made, but at $400 not cheap. But, if it saves you from one ticket its paid for itself. Trebien's looks like a Bel or an Escort. They are likely illegal in Canada--not that this would ever stop me, of course. I decline to be spied upon by the local storm troopers.
Radar/laser detectors must be mounted level and in the front for the best view of the road. The main reasons I have a V1 iare its dual antennas (front and rear), directional arrows, exceptional range & great customer service. I've gone one step further and have an active laser jamming system to deal with the insidious individual vehicle targeting of laser by the revenue officers, oops--I mean police.

Get a V1, with the concealed remote display and have it all hardwired for stealth. Or, if you've got big bucks, go for a K40 "Calibre" system. Totally hidden, but well over $1000. No better reception than the V1, but hidden behind the bumper, etc. I'd go for the V1 and remote display & wire it properly. See valentineone.com

thanks for the info.. can V1 be hidden as well... 1000 is too much rite now.. i'm tryna get the video system installed which is gonna cost me well over 4k (canadian) so about 500 is most i can go... but since its illigal and u always have cops stopping people for drunk driving tests.. i don't wanna risk getting somethin which is out open..

Trebein,

How and where did you run the wire from the detector to the remote. I have the same unit and have been wondering how to conceal the wiring without causing a problem with the airbags in the pillars.

WLD -

Very carefully.

I tapped the power wire into the 12V power outlet, and ran the data wire behind and up the center console to the vent area, through a hole in the metal structure, across the dash under the steering wheel, zip-tied to a wiring harness that runs all the way from the left side to the NAV area.

Then, behind and up the dash to the bottom left corner of the windshield, then up the pillar to the headliner. I took off the cover of the pillar so I could work and see where all the airbag stuff was. After I took off that cover, it was fairly evident how to run the wire and not interfere with anything.

Trebien,

Thanks. Disassembled the dash when I install a satellite radio, so I think I'll give this a try.
