Question Hitch wiring harness

If I purchase a hitch from U-Haul or Drawtite, where do I get the wiring harness. Can I trust the one from the hitch people or do I have to purchase one from Lexus. I have a 9700 A if that makes a difference.

Default Hitch Harness

I just trailered my motorcycle home the other day, and I needed an adapter to mate the U-haul 4 prong (interlocking) harness with the GX socket. Uhaul didn't even sell the adapter, I had to leave - go to the Autoparts store and then go back to U-haul to get the trailer - wasted an hour of my time - I was fuming.

Johnny.....

I had my hitch installed by U-Haul. They also sold me the adapter you mentioned.

The originator of this post asks about the instalation of the wiring harness. Perhaps, his GX didn't come factory wired, as ours did.

That is correct. To my knowledge our GX did not come prewired with a wiring harness. If it is, I don't know where it is. This is why I would like to know about obtaining a harness.

Bob.....

I'm sure they will install whatever connector you will be needing. If you are going to tow a trailer with electric brakes, then you will need for them to intall the larger connector. Also, you will need for them to install a Brake Controller. For small stuff, and for trailers with Surge Brakes, you only need the connector that U-Haul uses.

Thanks Cap - my bad. I haven't seen too many GX's around here without a hitch so I just assumed it had one. Sorry about that bobcindy, hope you were able to get it starightened out with u-haul.

Default Wiring harness

I just bought mine. It has no receiver, but it does have the large circular electrical plug mounted under the bumper to the left of center. The dealer told me they came with everything from the factory (oil cooler, wiring harness, etc) but that the receiver is installed at the port. Point is, you should be able to install your receiver without worrying about the wiring harness.

When I installed my tow hitch from individual parts from Lexus I have to get the sub harness for the trailer plug. My 03 GX comes prewired with the tow hitch wires but with out the big plug. Follow this link and the plug is on the upper left on the picture. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=97402
