Anyone put in their own tow hitch?
My '04 GX has the tow package on the window sticker but I dont see the 2 inch receiver in the rear so does that mean I have to buy the tow hitch and receiever? The sales guy said they just wire the harness and other miscellaneous items but I still have to buy the reciever. Has anyone added their own factory receiver after purchase?
If so how much does it cost?

tow hitch
yes, I installed my own hitch. I was tired of hearing the crap from lexus about the wieght etc. All I wanted to do was haul my bikes on the trailer hitch like we did with our RX300. I have no intention of towing anything. So I called a different lexus dealer and they installed an aftermarket hitch and all for $150. Well worth it because Lexus won't do anything even though you already paid for the towing package.

GrayM
Gray can you tell me where you got that hitch for 150 bucks I have been getting quotes from after market people ranging 400-600 bucks for custom install. I can't believe Lexus does not sell a dam hitch unless it comes from the factory. You can't even add it on after it has come to the dealership.
GrayM I just want my bike rack on the hitch also not to tow jus to fit my bike rack. I dont have KDSS and do you have a pic of your aftermarket hitch?

Draw Tite
Draw-tite has a hitch for the GX 470 now and its supposed to look as good as factory. I am getting one installed next monday and will post pics. Total price was 200 bucks with a 150 dollar install fee. So 350 total.

U-Haul has Curt hitches. They charge $50 for the installation. Total cost was about $200.

Tony.....
I don’t have pictures, but I can take them. As for it fitting in the slot and looking Factory, it does not.
I was told that the factory ones have a problem with the shank hitting the spare tire, when using a standard shank. The after market protrudes about an inch or so beyond the bumper, allowing for the shank to miss the spare tire.

Thanks that hitch looks pretty good. Thanks for the info and pics Iam going to go to local U-haul to check it out. It looks like you kept the orginal tow hitch package from the factory.
Cap did they take your bumper off to install that Curt hitch do you remember?

No, they didn't remove the bumper.
The hitch has already paid for itself, as I got distracted while backing up and backed into a concrete block enclosure. I just got a few small scratches on the bumper from the broken concrete.
