I am getting some pulsating on my driver's side and I have a 07 GX 470 that I bought from the owner of my company that is is MINT condition. I have every service record performed at Lexus that has ever been done on the vehicle. My new to me GX has 105K on the ole clock and according to the service records the rotors have been turned 2 separate questions. My question is what brand is OEM, because I am not sure they can be turned yet a third time and I am going to have an independent do the brakes. I am using OEM pads the AKEBONO brand. Thanks in advance for your help. I am ordering everything from RockAuto today!

 

OEM would be Toyota... not a good Rotor... Rock auto sells a lot of better choices. I went with EBC and Hawk pads...smooth as silk and great stopping power. Good luck

 

I've always liked Centric rotors. I installed all 4 about 2 months ago on my GX. So far, so good. You can get them on Amazon for about $47/each.

 

Has anyone used the Centric rotors part# 12044127CRY for their front rotors?

 

Here is my take on the pulsing issue.
your mileage is around the same 105K as mine when I have pulsing issue. I would say consider the three things to replace to avoid hassle as my experienced with my GX.

In order:
1. Rear brake complete replacement (rotors + pads), then check if improvement. 105K is due for the rear.
2. Front brake (check rotors and pads if worn out) then check if improvement.
3. If the pulsing is still there, check and consider replace front caliper pair

For Rotors and pads:
First, OEM, Centric, and EBC are all using the same G3000 grey cast iron, so they are pretty much using the same material. OEM should be the choice because the company design and specs the rotors. But the cost is twice as much as other aftermarket. Centric and EBC rotors are about half price as OEM with same quality. If price is no object, I'll would go with OEM, otherwise Centric or EBC. I use OEM for the front and EBC for the rear.

Second, for the pads, I never see or heard OEM is using AKEBONO pads. In fact, my original 2004 pads came with Sumitomo all around, the front brake with pink color and the rear with blue color. Recently, Toyota (Lexus) is also source pads with ADVICs and their pads come with ADVICs marker on the pads and with black color. So if you go to the dealer and purchase your pad, they may have either Sumitomo or ADVIC pads and Made in Japan. The friction compound is the same for all these brands.

Notes: do not purchase the pad from Alibaba web site, they look exactly the same label but they are all fake or knock off stuff.

Toyota Complete Maintenance Care (TCMC) Made in USA, The pads are Ceramic, Cheaper but wear out quicker than Semi-metallic pads and stop with longer distance. When they worn out, they made noise.

vxphan, thanks for all the help, I found out an ole buddy of mine is a service adviser at Toyota here in OKC, I had him put all new OEM pads on and they said that my rotors could all be turned so I didn't end up needing them. They did front and back and a bunch of other maintenance stuff that needed to be done. It was expensive but they did a lot of stuff and he gave me the friends and family discount which took off $120.00 which was cool, needless to say brakes work AWESOME!! I will always be taking my Lexus to him over at Toyota for repairs!

 

Yes, I am running Centric Parts 120.44127 Premium Brake Rotor with E-Coating on the front. Working well so far, only time will tell how they stand up.

Anybody know if these are good numbers to order parts from Toyota? If not, is there a toyota part that could be used to replace GX rotors/pads?

 

Those part numbers are good, both Toyota and Lexus will be able to pull it up without a hitch.

 

Any EBC rotor will be better than OEM...

 

Anybody know what the difference is between the part numbers shown above, except beginning with 121, not 120?

 

121 are Centric's economy line. I've used them on other vehicles, only difference i've noticed is that they are not zinc plated. The hats will rust if they are not painted or cleared.
