Rumor: Next-Generation Lexus GS F Powered by 4.0L Twin Turbo V8?
Would you upgrade?
Japanese magazine Best Car is reporting that the next-generation Lexus GS F will be powered by a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 with over 590 horsepower and 500 lb.ft of torque.
Last week, Best Car claimed the same engine would be used in a high-performance variant of the LC.
This new rumor directly contradicts recent reports of the GS sedan being cancelled — the change in product planning would be a welcome reversal for Lexus enthusiasts everywhere.

From the ISF forum asking the same question:
NO and NO!!!!! I'm a huge fan of a naturally aspirated V8 for many many reasons. I hope to NEVER own a turbo engine of any kind!!!!!

I probably would if the following is true
1) better fuel economy in city and highway (if not, why turbo charge it?)
2) most of the engine sound is intank and not exhaust like the current GS F
3) lighter curb weight
4) controllable throttle response
5) 0-60 less than 4 seconds
6) same price as current GS F (note - if performance is less than 4 second 0-60 and 88K full loaded, it is deal compared to 100K M5 and E63).

The current car is great. If they end the model year or they come out with this new engine, you can probably get a new one or a lightly used one for 60K which is a steal.

Well, someone SMARTER then me...Stated something interesting...Those Rumored Torqued numbers don't make sense for a Twin Turbo V8...When it ONLY makes a little bit higher Torque than the V35A TT V6 in the new LS...

With properly sized Turbos, I would much rather have a TT V8 than a NA. My 2016 740i with the turbo 6 has great response, and the mid-range makes this car much more enjoyable to drive. Boost comes in very low in the rev band, and it feels much better suited to daily driving than my 2016 GS350, plus it gets better fuel economy.

While a TT8 would be nice, you can be sure the price of the car will go up to well over 90K...
Plus you get the added complexity of a twin turbo engine, possibly affecting reliability......
Being that you can now get a 2016 GSF at roughly 20K or more off sticker, which is the better value ?
Now if the raw HP is the more important thing to you, then... thats up to you.....
To me, lowering the 0-60 time by 1/2 second isn't the most important thing.....
The current GSF is still faster, and more refined than 90% of the cars you see on the road....

They referenced this story on the HP too, and I was a little confused. I love the GS F, but I have to wonder how long the model will stick around? I like the idea of giving it more power, even if involves turbos. Would be a little bit of bummer from a noise perspective though, as the 5.0 sounds great NA.

There is no way the current generation GSF will get a new engine.
The next GSF if Lexus brings it back will come out in 2021-2022....These power #s are low considering new M5 thats coming in 2018 will have over 600hp.

Cancelling the mid size sedan "performance model" would be unthinkable. The GS range has been in the line up for decades and I don't see Lexus pulling out of the performance sedan race with BMW, Benz. Jaguar and Audi.
I think these rumors are purposely allowed to leak to boost GSF sales.
