after about 2 years of ownership, and being pulled over & given a warning from the popo, I've decided to go ahead and install my front license plate.

other than the $90+ OEM from Lexus, has anyone else bought an aftermarket bracket that looks good?

 

Get some zip ties and tie it up in the right spot to avoid blocking anything. Gives a clean flush look.

 

Are you allowed to 3M the plate on? Or does it have to screw onto a bracket of some sort?

 

not sure about that.. but the policeman who stopped me told me to zip tie it on.

however, I'd rather not take the chance on the license plate rubbing the finish off the grill.

I know mine is a small plate, I just stuck it on using 3M tape.
However, when the car was at the dealer, the US size plate was mounted on a factory OEM backing plate. US models may not have those screw mounts on the grill like ours do so you may not be able to use that factory backing plate. I would've sent you mine out Free of Charge.
