Drivers window cracked
Good evening. Long time lurker, first time poster. This morning I was getting out of my 2015 GS 350 at work and noticed my drivers window cracked. Apparently something hit it either on the way into work or during the night and I didn't notice. Does anyone have any advice on replacing one of these windows? The dealership wants $550 for the window and another $460 for labor + tint. Ouch. I pulled the fuse so I wouldn't roll the window down accidentally at some point also. I'm a bit of a DIY-er but mostly when I have somewhat of a roadmap. I've replaced windows in the past in a previous Saab and MKIV Jetta but most automotive windows require some fancy trick. Thanks!

Fixing it is not difficult. Here is a video that gets you about 75% of the way there. Pop the door off like you see in the video, remove the weather strip, remove a small bracket with 2 screws, and then the plastic service holes glued to the door. You will have full access to the glass which is held by two bolts. Slide up the glass and replace it with a new one, put the 2 bolts back, apply the service hole covers back (may need to use some glue), put the bracket back with 2 screws, put weather strip back, pop door back on.

I watched that video earlier. Just wasn't 100% on replacing the glass. It really is just two bolts holding the glass in the regulator? That sounds pretty straight forward. I was worried it'd be something crazy like pulling out the center of plastic grommet (ie: Jetta MKIV). Thanks for the tip! Now to cancel my appointment and find the glass!

They have to tint it even though its an OEM part? One would think that'd already be done as supplied or something?

Hmm. I don't know. I just bit the bullet and bought an OEM one from www.oemlexusparts.com. I'll just get tinted locally and call my dealership in the morning to cancel my appointment.

Any details on when and where this window cracked? My car somehow got the same crack except on the passenger side. I bet the glass Lexus sourced has some sort of flaw or had issues with being heated on the outside and cooled on the inside of the glass ...:/

Sorry to hear about your broken window. My window cracked yesterday in the Virginia area. It was about 55-60 degrees outside and I didn't run the heat or A/C on the way into work. The drive was about 15 minutes. I think that a rock hit the window somehow. It has a small white chip on the outside of the glass where the 3 cracks intersect.

How the heck does a rock hit behind the side mirror? Dealer said the same thing happened to me. I think we need to buy lottery tickets

Some insurance will, not mine. I will be shopping around after this.
For future folks with this issue, I received an email today from oemlexusparts.com and it said this:
"We regret to inform you that your order has been declined. Please contact us for further clarification.Below Comment has been added in your order
We are very sorry but we cannot ship glass due to the high risk of freight damage."
Why would you sell it online if you don't plan on shipping it? That doesn't sound like a great business model to me. I have now placed an order with lexuspartsnow.com. Hopefully this pans out better.

https://www.oemvehicleparts.com/ <-- Does not charge tax for me.
www.discountpartsmonster.com <-- Charges Tax for me
Both of their prices are great. Check them and see if it helps.
