Default Tire recommendation for 2013 GS350 Base RWD

Need to replace the stock dunlops and I was hoping to hear recommendations from all the veterans here. My main goal is reliability, longevity, safety, and cost efficiency. This GS will be driven by my mom who drives like grandma (always under 2K-3K RPM when accelerating).

I am curious if there is any advantage to dropping over $800 on Michelins or Pirellis if the goal is not performance? I was eyeing some cheaper options with decent reviews like Falken Pro G4 A/S or GOODYEAR EAGLE LS2.

Any other recommendations for tires under $150 a pop? Thanks!

The more you spend on a tyre, the shorter life you will get from it. There's usually a happy median, you don't want to go too hard a compound (cheap) or you'll noticeably lose grip.
I'll be purchasing tyres worth around $300AUD each, any less and they won't inspire confidence.

My dad has the Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus on his 3GS and the car rides like its on air. If you're looking for a good tire with a fairly compliant ride for 18", i have the Dunlop Signature HP's but I was able to get on a great sale for around $619 for all 4.

If i had to recommend a cheaper tire around $150, I'd go with Cooper (I used to run 16" cooper tires on my previous 2GS):

OP - If you have a Base GS 350 (I've never even seen one!), then you likely have 17" wheels/tires. I suspect you have a GS 350 with the Premium package, plus some additional options typically added. And, I'm guessing you have 18" wheels/tires.

I decided to go with one size up and chose the Pirelli Cinturato P7 Plus All Season in 245/45R18 100V with a 70,000 mile warranty. I bought the tires from Discount Tires. I am very pleased with the tires. I highly recommend them...

Any downside of going with tires that are one size up? If so, I might have some leeway of choosing tires. Thanks!

No, no downside. I've often gone up one size. And, if you are concerned with the speedometer being off - when your speedometer shows 60 mph you will actually be traveling 60.81 mph ... with fresh tread, and somewhat less with worn tread.

So you added a little bit of width with the 245. That's about one extra centimeter, right? Any rub in the front wheel wells on tight turns? I'd like to go a bit wider (I'm on stock suspension) on my 2013 AWD, but want to make sure I don't rub in the front.

Yes, it added a little width. No rubbing at all - they're perfect! You'll have even more room with your AWD.

Thanks. TireRack says I can go to a 255/40 18. I'd like the look, but this is New York and I want an all-season. Not sure what I'd be giving up in snow or wet traction.

The safest bet is 245/40 but if tirerack will take back the tires if they don't fit, then its worth a shot...255/40 sound like they might rub against the front fender.

I'd think 255/35 might work better in the front but a 35 profile tire will get destroyed on our NYC roads.I

Question for anyone out there having purchased Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season - Mine are 235/45R18, got them January, 2018. Looks like they may only make it to 26-30K miles before needing replacement. Is this average for other buyers out there or am I way early? Did alignment at install and have been regularly rotating after 5K miles. Thanks in advance

It depends on your roads and your driving. Some road surfaces are super abrasive. You have a 70,000 mile warranty.

Two other factors that can affect tire wear, tire inflation and worn suspension components, especially shocks. But if you’ve been rotating every 5k, don’t sweat it, your warranty should cover you and your next set will be prorated. That is assuming that you purchased from an authorized dealer.

Default Upsizing in Winter Climates

Has anyone who contends with snow tried upsizing to 255/40 18 all-seasons? I know that a great deal depends on which tire and tread I choose. What I'd like to know is if one were to compare two tires that only differ in that one was a 235 and the other a 255, how much of a difference would it make in one's traction. I expect there to be some difference and I am prepared to drive more sensibly in snowy conditions, but will this thing turn into a sled with those extra two centimeters of width? FYI- I have a 2013 AWD non-F sport with the winter package. Thanks.

What's the benefit of upsizing to 245? If the improvement is minimum I'd rather stick with factory spec 235 for the peace of mind. Also I believe 245 might be a little wide for 8 inch rim.
