Default Wiper sticking(don't think it's relay related)

Hey Clubbers,
When it's raining but only lightly, my wipers come on. They seem to shudder across the screen, occasionally with enough force to switch to the winter mode. When there is sufficient water, there is no issue.
I'm aware of faulty relays causing issues but I assumed that factor wouldn't differentiate between wet and dry.
I filmed it dry, however a similar effect is witnessed during a sprinkle

Has anyone had this issue?

Did you install the blades the wrong way? Try flip them upside down.

They only mount 1 way due to the way they snap in, however it's possible the car might want the rubber inside to be reversed. Of the 2 sides of the rubber, the side pushing towards the roof is 90 degrees(sorry if non-US unit it traps me every time) and the side pushing back down towards the bonnet is angled at something like 50 degrees.

Make sure the bolts on the arms are completely tightened.

Thanks, I've got my torque ratchet at work, I'll check it to spec

Any contaminants on your windshield? Tree sap?

Does spraying washer fluid completely eliminate it?

I gave it a really good scrub a couple of times. Maybe there's rainx or something nasty on it...might try alcohol or something else stronger than soapy water and Windex?
When I spray the washer fluid it works perfectly, until it gets dry and snaps up into winter mode due to the torque of the motors.

I usually clay bar my windshield once a year. It leaves the surface buttery smooth and the wipers work better. In light rain, I even turn off the auto wipers because the water just glides off.

I definitely wouldn't let it run like that because it's going to either shred the gears or wear down the motor. Spray washer fluid if you have to.

How old are your inserts?

Thanks, I'll give the clay a go if new inserts don't help. I've isolated the issue to the big drivers side wiper, it's a brand new Trico. Maybe I'll try to track down a set of genuine Lexus wipers, with any luck I'll find one for under $120 here. Watching it operate, it's almost like it's just too long...
