I did the sim card map update myself on a retrofitted 2015 head unit, was the easiest thing to do. I don't see how a software map update fried a head unit. Must be a coincidence with something else gone wrong or you inadvertently did something very wrong. I've taken apart the head unit and it's physically very well put together and looks of quality components.

What could've I done wrong? I put the SIM card in the slot and followed the on-screen instructions. Like I said, things were going fine the first 10 mins. or so and then the screen started flashing pink and black.

idk. It really is simple as turning the car off, inserting the sim car, and turning the car on.
Here is a youtube video of what is suppose to happen:

I have never seen or heard of anyone else have the issue you described, it's very weird. Hopefully they gave you a good trade in price. Seems silly to take a hit on trade in if they would of covered under warranty anyway.

Yeah and they called in the warranty after the sale of the ES in my opinion is not a better car

I have a feeling you let the power die to the car. I've seen this happen too many times. You did NOT have your engine running.

Did you have the engine running? Or did you just have key on without the engine running? The battery saver will shut off the power after 20 or so minutes.

What a ridiculous comment.

If you read above, I said that I kept the engine running, even after it hung. When I got to the dealership I kept it running. It was still running when taken into the service department.

from the reading its look like you want to damage the car so they can take it bak or something. first if I want an ES why would I go out of my way to update the nav and pay for the nav update disc if I don't want the gs no more? this already sound fishy to me

What an idiotic comment.

1. If I wanted to be deceitful, why would I post? I’d just keep my deceit to myself?

2. Wouldn’t it be easier to trade a trouble-free car?

What an idiot.

In his original post he mentions he had thoughts of purchasing a new ES. The nav crash and subsequent cost to replace it encouraged him to trade in the GS and pick up an ES. I'm not sure what's so obscure about that.
