Do's and Don'ts
Here's a short list of Do's and Don'ts for new GS owners. It's a simple go-to list that does not include personal preferences (re: mods). Most items are gleaned from this forum and are listed in no particular order. Please submit your Do's/Don'ts and I will add them to the list.
DO'S
DO'S
- Do drive it like you stole it.
- Do load test your battery every year after it is 2 years old.
- Do check spare tire wheel well for water (see this)
- Do use all the features. You paid for them, use them.
- Do read the manual.
- Do wash it regularly...and wax it.
- Do use premium gas.
- Do accept the ticking of the high pressure injectors as normal (or Don't, then install noise-reducing insulators for a little relief)
- Do shift the rest position of your wipers up if heavy snow or icy condition is expected.
- Do customize settings to your preference.
- Do set and use the "linked mirror function when reversing" feature (there's no excuse for scraping the curb when parallel parking).
- DO your oil changes as recommended(or sooner). (er34)
- DO make full use of the engine's powerband, i.e., exercising 4k-redline regularly. It's a Lexus, it won't break, I promise. (er34)
- DO try Sport/Sport+, you did not buy a GS to drive like an ES. (er34)
- Do let your neighbors, family and friends borrow the car as a treat once in a while. It shows them (and you) what's important to you. Just tell them, "Take the Lexus..." And watch their face light up. (JeffKeryK)
- Don't drive it like you stole it.
- Don't think that you have cut the turn enough to miss the curb, if you have any doubt. The curb always wins and you get to enjoy the wheel rash forever.
- Don't push the radio on/off button to hard...it could get pushed in permanently ($$$ fix).
- Don't worry if if feels like the front wheels skip/slip when turning tightly. This is normal (see this)
- Don't look at the front bumper...you will be depressed after seeing all the paint chips.
- DON'T waste your life driving in ECO. (er34)

Here you go. With the L or R selected and in reverse, adjust the mirrors to the way you prefer. They will remember that position and move there whenever L or R is selected and you switch to reverse.
Linked mirror function when reversing
● When either “L” or “R” of the mirror select switch is selected, the outside rear view mirrors will automatically angle downwards when the vehicle is reversing in order to give a better view of the ground. To disable this function, select neither “L” nor “R”.
● If the mirror angle adjustment switch is operated while the linked mirror function is in operation, the angle and position of the mirrors can be remembered, and the mirrors will operate at the angle adjusted to the last time the linked mirror function was operated.
However, because the mirrors move based on the angle they are in when the linked mirror function is not operating, the mirror angle when the linked mirror function is operating will also be changed if the mirrors are adjusted while the function is not operating.

Note on the mirror "reversing" positions, not memorized as part of the 1,2,3 memories...all drivers will
use the same reversing position or turn it off by setting the mirror selector to the middle as swscott530 described.

Do let your neighbors, family and friends borrow the car as a treat once in a while.
It shows them (and you) what's important to you.
Just tell them, "Take the Lexus..."
And watch their face light up.

Lead Lap
haha...no. Only other people that have driven my car (outside of the factory and port workers) are the dealership employees for service appts.
If something happens to the car, fine. I did it, it's my problem. I refuse to accept someone else's mistake because I let them drive my car. So be it. I'm paying for it, not you.

The problem I have with putting the wipers in winter mode is that they’re no longer on the de-icing heating elements on the windshield when in that position.
