Default Power Trunk Retrofit

Oops... I did a thing (I'm looking at you bclexus ) As a side project, I bought all the power trunk components for $300 used. Will see if I can get the actuator and cylinder working out of the car, probably using my bench DC power regulator. Don't want to go through the hassle of installing it only to find it doesn't work.

Man, I'm pulling for you! When you run out of features and options made for the GS 350 to add I have a hunch you will look at the LS 460 for more features and options you can add. Then, could you possibly go as far as looking at other car brands for more? Could you possibly go as far as looking at adding features and options from a Roll-Royce? We shall see!

Hahaha, believe it or not, I will probably do the Rolls Royce Starlight Headliner. My buddy had it done on his BMW, looks sick. But you definitely know I am going to keep modding, it's a bug!

I think you are missing the motor that lifts/lowers the trunk, also the power trunk close button.

85790-30050

Looks like you have the mechanism that pops the trunk open.

Was that part of the $300? Did you get it new or used? Seems like the trunk motor is the most expensive part.

The picture I have above is the actual actuator, it just has a missing arm. I can make weld one up pretty easily. Switch and bezel I ordered new, it's cheap.

Actually, I'm not sure exactly what I have now. I will check tomorrow. I don't mind spending more money to get the additional part if needed.

EDIT: See bottom left called "W/(POWER TRUNK LID SYSTEM)". Part number is 85790-30050. That is the one I have. I'm not too familiar with the components for the power trunk so I'll be going into this without much knowledge. Will have to guess my way through unless you can help out some.

Oh, did you try the AUTO heat/cool switch I shipped you from the GSF?

I wonder if 2013 has the mounting holes for the power trunk motor. Like a feature they purposely held back a year.

I'm already drooling. Sign me up for that thread!

But anyway, I'm excited to see how the power trunk retrofit goes. Does your trunk have the soft-close latch where you can just lower the lid instead of slamming it?

I think the first picture in OP's first post is the soft-close latch your referring too. I'm not sure what the second picture is, I think that might be the part he says: "I'm not sure exactly what I have now"

The trunk motor would be the most expensive part to obtain, unless you can get it cheap from a junk yard. I considered this mod, but even the used one I found on eBay was $500(85790-30050), brand new is $950.

My question was worded poorly. What I really meant to ask was, “do GS’ without the power trunk still have the soft-close/power-assisted trunk latch?”

I’m not referring to the motor that raises and lowers the entire lid. I have the power trunk on my GS and there are two parts to it. The first being the motorized lid itself, the second being the motorized latch.

The motorized latch is definitely pictured above but I thought all GS’ had this with or without the power trunk option.

My 2013 GSh doesn't have soft close, but the latch unlocks with a motor connected to a cable.

Mylparts has two part numbers for the latchs, but they have the same exact price($584.36), one with power trunk and one without.
