2GR-FKS VS. 400HP Mustang Cobra Terminator
So I had the chance to run with a local guy that owns a 2003/4-ish SVT Cobra in a closed circuit (Mexico).
This SVT Cobra was was my dream car back in high school. Supercharged V8 and loud noise that can wake the dead and all. But somehow I ended up in a Lexus and can't complain about that!
When the light turned green, we both punched it and my car was able to gain about a car length distance from his screaming V8 and it stayed that way until we got about 90-100 and I let off and let him pass.
Now, my car only has 300 HP and even lower torque and I believe his is around 400 all around cause it was modded, unless his mods are actually hurting performance.
I wasn't expecting to beat him on a drag race but one car length tells a lot. Maybe because of the quick shifting tranny? This FKS engine ain't bad!

Was his car a stick and did he have the traction control on or off? I've driven one of those and it is no slouch but if he couldn't drive and just lit the tires up, he could have 2000 HP but if they don't reach the ground, they are useless.

I think those only come in stick, right? I didn't hear any tire squeal but I heard his engine screaming its lungs out trying to catch up. I think if we keep going past 100 he will eventually beat me.

The SVT is roughly 1/2 a second faster than your car. So his launch may have been off. Go race one of those Tesla Model S and prepare to be humbled. LOL

I raced a Saleen Mustang back in my sport biker days. Didn't downshift but I was shocked it kept up with my 750cc sport bike. No way it could have beaten my 1,000cc Bike though. I no longer do dumb **** like that. LOL

Yeah me either but sometimes I get curious if I hear a loud revving and downshifting left and right (aka: showing off). and I guess the fast shifting of the RC helps too.

Nice! Agreed on the FKS motor. On paper, not too different from the FSE motor it replaces but in real world driving combined with the 8-speed, it can be very surprising! Especially in terms of response when needing a quick downshift as well as higher speed performance around 75 and up! Not surprised at all to hear about the outcome you saw compared to the older Mustang. Modern powertrains are much more efficient fuel economy-wise but also at making use of available power.
You hear a lot of flack around the forum in regards to the newer 8-speed transmission but in actuality, it's pretty great!

Do you have a video of this run? I've got a Terminator and stock these cars 370-380rwhp (about 430 crank hp) at 3665lbs (coupe) and the RC350 is probably 260rwhp (311 crank HP) at 3748lbs for the RWD version. Less power, heavier car.....I don't know..........
With a just a pulley, tune and exhaust (about $1,500), I'm over 450rwhp (530 crank HP) so I just find it a little hard to believe.
You might have ran into a 99 or 2001 Cobra. That's around 270rwhp, (315-320 crank HP) just like the RC350

Well, I expect the Terminator to obliterate me but I think the quick shifting of the RC helps it to get ahead quicker. I need to get a front and rear cam, it's impossible to film and drive at the same time.
The RC may look slow on paper but in real life it can hang with bigger dogs just fine.

I think you either ran into a fake Cobra, or an 99-01 Cobra or an extremely bad driver.
I can't see a RC350 launching hard against a roots blown cobra which will have over 100lbs more torque, at a lower rpm band and over 100 more horsepower in a lighter car. The RC doesn't even see max torque until 4800 rpms so I can't see how you launched hard, with an auto tranny, against a 6 speed cobra.
This was my Cobra stock:
I have about 375rwtq right at 2,000rpms.....and that's 375, at the wheels so you know it was around 425 torque at the crank.
Car and Driver has the 1/4 mile for the 2018 RC 350 at 14.2 at 101MPH. The 0-60 is 5.7 seconds.
Motor Trend has the Cobra 1/4 mile at 12.8 at 113.2MPH and the 0-60 at 4.7 seconds.
And that's a stock Cobra. Who keeps their Cobra stock when $1,500 gets you an additional 100hp?
Other people film it, or your passenger. I've been to a couple of races and everyone has a cell phone camera. If I google 'Mexico Street Races', I see tons of races. I would imagine a RC350 obliterating a Terminator would be recorded but I guess that wasn't recorded.
I'm not saying it didn't happen. It might have. I'm just saying that I find it hard to believe since I drive a Terminator and Lexus.
