I hit a trash bin this morning and broke my passenger side mirror glass including the clips that hold it into the white angle adjustment unit. The rest of the mirror unit (housing, turn signal, BSM) seem to still work fine. I bought a whole replacement unit off ebay ($65!) and am planning just to replace the mirror glass.

The mirror glass has a couple wires attached to it, I am guessing for the BSM indicator light. Does anyone know where these wires lead or how to detach them? I've looked at a couple videos and posts, can't find it exactly. I am guessing behind the white angle adjustment unit there might be a clip that I can't see, hoping they don't go all the way inside the door.

I have taken apart my mirror for replacing the puddle lights, and I don't recall there being a connector as I just let my mirror "dangle" while I worked on it.

Those wires are for the BSM as well as heating elements.

When you undo the 5 screws, the entire rear of the mirror housing will come loose, beware of that so it doesn't drop to the floor and knick the paint.

I just replaced mine on Sunday. I bought my replacement mirror from an ES 350 off of ebay for I think $70. All the other listings were wanting upwards of $100.

I just cut cut the wires from the broken mirror, stripped both sets of wires that were connected to the mirror on the car and on the replacement mirror, then just twisted them together and wrapped electrical tape around it. It's still working, so I must have did something right.

Cutting the wires is a good option I hadn't thought of. I'll post an update with my actual fix.

^ Give me a moment to go home and check something. My mirror is broken at the base and I think I can see the wires and if there are any harness clips there. I will report back before the end of the day.

Solder your connections, that way you limit your chance of having problems.

Thanks, was thinking that and heat-shrink wrapping them. Hopefully I can find the clips, looks like a couple may be on the mirror glass itself (circled in yellow), a couple wires not on clips (circled in green)

I am pretty sure the wires go into the harness which connects to the inner door skin. They are tied into the rest of the wiring for the mirror adjustment and folding mechanism. If you aren't replacing the complete mirror assembly, it would be easiest to cut and splice as said before.

I was not able to see any wires in my broken mirror base at home. Sorry!

Thanks for all the advice especially OneFunGS for going out of your way to take a look for me!

It looks like there are clips on the back of the mirror, and the 2 wires remaining are male/female connections that just pull off.

My replacement mirror arrives April 4 so I should have a report by the following weekend.

An update on my mirror replacement project.

Good news is all the wires do have connectors so no need to clip and solder them.

Bad news is the replacement mirror I purchased doesn't fit, this one has a flatter lip, no BSM, and the internals are different.

I'm going to try the overlay mirror that you glue on top of the existing mirror (Burco) for $40. I may try removing all the broken glass even through the manufacturer's instructions are just to glue the overlay on top.

Will report how things go...
