19” f sport wheels, how strong?
Was curious to know what you guys thought of the strength of the stock 19” f sport wheels from 2013 to 2015.
I own a 2014 (have owned it for 6 months) and brought my car in for service and was told that 2 of my wheels were “noticeably” bent. I drive a lot of city driving and have not noticed vibration it in the snow/cold weather. I did remember hitting a few big pot holes, however, but didnt think anything of it since i felt tbe car drove straight.
Thankfully I have tire insurance but was curious to know how many of you guys have bent these rims, and how often. The design looks like it would be quite strong, but a lot has to do with the casting process and how much abuse they will take.
For reference, I live in Boston area and drive 30 mi / day on average. Dedicated wheels year round.

Must have been some big potholes. I've never had a bent rim (that I knew of) in almost 30 years of driving.
Not saying it doesn't happen at all. Just surprised. Did they show you?

No, I didn’t see them and I don’t really have the time to go down there. What’s nice about my dealer is they drop off a courtesy car to my work and swap out. Also, they had plenty of past chances to rip me off and always cam through, often times giving me substantial freebees under “customer satisfaction.” I never thought I’d be so happy with a dealership but they are top notch.
I also find it weird that I bent two wheels. Anyone know how much these wheels weigh? If they went through a proper casting process (and i would think they have, since they are lexus wheels), I would think they are pretty strong.

When I had my '11 IS350 AWD all four of the wheels were out of round when I bought the car certified and I had them fix all four for free at the dealership. There was noticeable steering vibration at 40-60mph due to the wheels being bent.
With my current 4GS, two of the four were out of round when I asked the dealership to confirm that prior to purchasing..and they fixed thus the vibrations went away. A few months later, I noticed the steering wheel vibration again and went to a local shop where they guy said 3 were out of round.
I didn't feel like i was driving any reckless or hitting major potholes but it definitely does happen. I've been good over the last 2 years thankfully after repairing the wheels locally and getting new tires at the same time. I have the 18" non F sport wheels. When I bought the car, the finance guy told me that the wheel and tire package is really a big deal esp. for the 19" wheels b/c they see lots of folks come back with tire/wheel issues due to bad roads here. I didn't buy that insurance but can understand why it would sell now that it has happened to me.
I think the 18" wheels weigh around 35lbs each if I remember correctly. I still think the wheels are great wheels for size/strength/style/longevity and prefer an OEM wheel over any aftermarket wheel esp. here in NYC.

I have the 19” Lexus GS Forged Full Face accessory wheels they are pretty light compared to the stock wheels. These wheels are suppose to be stronger than the cast alloy wheels and they have got out of round from pot holes. I lost a tire and wheel from a road crater a few weeks back. Now I just drive slowly over known pot holes in my neighborhood and area. It doesn’t help that I have lowered the car on sportier aka stiffer lowering springs which may not have as much dampening action over pot holes when compared to stock springs.

Well, that’s disappointing news. I was looking forward to upgrading to that kind of wheelset in the future. As it stands, I think I will let the 5 year wheel and tire insurance do its job and save my money towards the next Lexus purchase.

The roads are such garbage in MA, that next winter really want to just have my GS off the road most of the time from Jan-April 12 or so. (that's when the potholes are at the absolute worst.... )

Mike I know what you mean and yea ny is terrible with potholes too. I swerve every day and try to avoid the best I can but sometimes you have to take the bite, just try to go slow into it less chance of severe damage so I believe.
