Android Auto, any success with aftermarket audio
Currently driving a 2010 IS350 with 140,000 miles on it. It's been a fantastic car. I'm starting to look at some other vehicles (2015-2016 ish) and the GS350 is in the top 3.
Has anyone had success getting Android Auto working on their recent year GS350? Guessing it would need to be an aftermarket head unit...Crutchfield says nothing available that fits the GS350. I've really enjoyed driving with AA or Carplay in rentals and other people's cars. Can't believe Lexus is late to the game (or maybe not showing up?)
Thanks for any guidance. Sean

Good luck finding any aftermarket radio that will fit 2015-16 GS350, you won't find it. You can however do screen mirroring with 3rd party adapters, search forum for info. I've given up doing any audio upgrade to my 2015 GS350; too much of a hassle. I simply bought a $10 phone holder that mounts to CD slot. I use AA on my phone, works much better.

BTW, I experienced Android Auto in a rental Ford Edge the other day and it was very frustrating. It was similar to an app that blocked multi-tasking back in the Windows 95 days. Once you entered it, none of the functions of the FORD system worked anymore, including the climate controls. You had to EXIT android auto, to switch your temperature or radio stations. As an end user (and I work in software development) it felt like the integration was not taken into consideration at all. That's probably why Toyota is refusing to use it. They should have a standard API to allows the car manufactures to integrate, climate, radio and other apps, directly into Android Auto, so it doesn't feel like you have 2 computers in your car. Has anymore else experienced this, or had a more seamless experience with Android Auto?

1) The HDMI to AV converter reduces the quality of the on screen display. Not a deal breaker though since everything is still legible and easy to read. It's just not as sharp as I had hoped.
2) None of the car audio (e.g., in-car navigation) gets routed when mirroring. It only plays what is coming through your phone. Wish there was a way to separate the two.
Other than that, solid product so far.

Yes, it will use the GPS from your phone. Just remember, all this does is mirror what is on your phone screen to your car screen. It comes in really useful.
