Default Not just another intake thread...

It seems like CL members are hot and cold about K&N intakes because of both the loss of the sound generator and the oiled filter element. I have a possible solution...

The AEM tube and replacement filter from the 2015 RC350/IS350/IS250 should fit our cars too (PN# 22-688C). Their OEM intake tube is the same part number as ours, as is the paper filter. The AEM dry filter from this kit is also the same drop in for our stock air box (PN#28-20452).

I'm thinking AEM doesn't offer this as a listed option for the 2013-15 GS350 because they already offer the 21-806C full intake system. I'm not sold on the incomplete heat shield however, keeping me from pulling the trigger on that one. The AEM filter element has a larger surface area than the AFE dry (or oiled) drop in, and the alternative F-Sport tube and filter is ridiculously expensive.

I have no idea what the sound would be like, but I might try it. In combination with a Borla axle back I'm considering, I'd rather have the extra sound out the back than under the hood anyway.

Thoughts anyone?

I have the Fsport filter and you're right, the AEM does has a slightly bigger filter element (not sure how well this translates to performance). For the intake tube, I went with the HPS intake (noticed initial better throttle response just like others who've had it) since it has a slightly bigger diameter than the K&N, AEM and stock one. The HPS also retains the factory sound generator. Sound wise, I don't think you'll notice much with just replacing the intake tube and filter (that fits in the stock air box). I believe the sound is most noticeable when removing the stock air box and going with the cone filter.

Even though I have the HPS short ram intake with sound generator still intact, I never hear it as the Invidia catback w/Q300 mufflers exhaust note drowns out the sound generator

Have the same catback exhaust, I know what you mean.

I took advice of TonyN and got the Takeda Stage 2 intake with discounted price! It should arrive this week so might test it during the weekend if weather let me. Next step would be Borla exhaust system for full ‘sound’ improvement 😎
