Default HUD Retrofit

EDIT October 4th, 2018 - RETROFIT SUCCESSFUL GO TO POST 98 FOR PICTURES.

I recently bought a CPO '15 GS 350 F Sport Crafted Edition. Is there any OEM or aftermarket dash available to add the Heads-Up Display (HUD) to this model?
I am getting some major work done to the car so figured I may include it even if it will be cost prohibitive.

Oh man, I would like to know about this too. I used to have a Grand Prix GTP with the HUD and it was amazing. I've seen a few '13s with the HUD, but I'm interested in what can be done to retrofit into newer models.

I know there are devices you can buy that sit on your dash and reflect up onto the screen. I also know the Navdy is pretty cool (http://amzn.to/2zXeGuC) but it's mostly for navigation.

I have the Navdy and a bunch of other 3rd party on-dash solutions. Believe me when I say this, you are not missing out on anything. A factory installed HUD vs 3rd party options is comparing apples to oranges. The BMW HUD is pretty awesome in the newer models. But I'd like to retrofit my car with the standard Lexus HUD regardless if I have to replace the windshield and purchase a new dash. I just want to know if anyone has had any experience doing it.

Spoke with Lexus engineering today and was told that certain service centers are "absolutely able to retrofit" a HUD on cars that had the option but were not installed with it. Gives me some positive vibes. One of those centers will be contacting me on Monday to schedule the retrofit. Hopefully it is positive news. Fingers crossed.

Mine had Hud those who don’t have it are not missing much trust me, it’s not cost effective to have factory Hud installed I believe ur looking at a new dash, windshield and bunch of other items.

Whats the verdict?

Personally I'd rather look into retrofitting dynamic cruise control than getting HUD.

Not really worth it ,when I sold mine had all the options HUD, dynamic rear steer, ML sound etc ppl would low ball me even below trade in price. If someone is too desperate should rather get a different car.

It's possible to do this on a budget.

There is a guy on this forum who swapped the entire dash(not an easy feat), car is already wired for the HUD(harness is behind the instrument cluster, also the HUD switch wiring is next to the trip/odometer wiring.

If you don't have the HUD windshield it will still display, but with a shadowing affect. I know they have some aftermarket films that will get rid of the shadow effect.

There is a guy who cut the opening in his dash for the hud and bought the plastic shroud for hud and inserted that in the hole.
This takes care of the need for swapping the dash.

Find a used HUD. Then you just need the button/switches and the shroud for the dash. If you do it yourself you could theoretically do the mod for under $500.

Honestly for that price it's not worth it. The only useful information the 2013 HUD displays is current speed. The 2014+ HUD is in color and also gives you nav directions, more useful, but the 2014+ HUD projector will not work in the 2013. HUD is fairly new to Lexus, I'd give it a few more years/generations before HUD becomes more practical/useful. Honestly one day it might become standard equipment.

I checked eBay and found a used 2013 HUD projector for $221.23 with free shipping. Then you just need the button/switches and the shroud for the dash. If you do it yourself you could theoretically do the mod for under $400.

I have a 2015. Is it possible to hook up the 2013 HUD projector to the 2015 connectors? I can do the dash cutout myself and create the harness needed for the relays/switch, not a big deal.

If I purchase a 2014 or 2015 HUD projector, I'm assuming that will be the color one? I will hunt for the parts at junk yards if you can give some insight on whether it will work or not.

Just for your reference, I am using this at the moment. http://a.co/a3d21AN . So I am not really looking for the 'wow' factor. I'd rather have a bland built-in HUD rather than this thing sitting on my dash.

Please let me know and thanks for the direction!

After digging around a bit, here is the part list for the 2015 GS350 F Sport (or base).

1) 83141-30160 - HUD
2) 83166-30100 - Upper Bracket
3) 83166-30130 - Lower Bracket
4) 83163-30130 - Lens

See picture attached/below if you cannot access the link.

I think I am going to head down this path and search for these parts at local junkyards because these will be very hard to come by in USED condition online.

I definitely no longer want to buy these items NEW, just not worth it at the $1963.94 + shipping + tax + labor.

Will keep you fellas updated when I do get this installed.
