Extended warranty good idea?
I just purchased 2 weeks ago a 40,000 mile CPO GS350 AWD F Sport which has 3 years unlimited miles Platinum, 0 deductible left on the CPO warranty. The dealer offered me an additional 5 years unlimited mileage for $3700 at the time of purchase and I refused. I called another Lexus dealer and was able to talk it down to $2595 and I purchased it. So now I have an additional 8 years unlimited miles platinum warranty with 0 deductible. I drive approx. 25k-30k per year so I figured that I can drive this car to 250K-280K miles in that much time....I’ve always argued against warranties but the unlimited mileage was worth it to me. Unfortunately, now I can’t put in my CAE, lowering springs, and strut bar though...
any thoughtsif this was a good idea?

All in the details, is this bumper to bumper or powertrain only? And then what exclusions and restrictions (Mods)? I've heard many horror stories on extended warranties. What maintenance plan do you need to follow and with who? That could cost you more than the warranty itself.

I did the same on my 2013 that I purchased CPO. It's a bumper to bumper, $0 deductible that covers me through 2024 unlimited miles w/ $0 deductible. It doesn't cover wear items (brakes, etc.) or squeeks and rattles, but all mechanical and electrical components are covered. It's through Lexus (just an extension of the CPO Platinum warranty), so I deal with my local dealer and service advisor. I really don't expect to have to use it, but figured it was cheap peace of mind on the off chance that anything comes up. It's also refundable and transferable one time in the event I sell or trade the car.
Enjoy the new car and drive the wheels off it knowing you won't be stuck with any repair $.

Its a good warranty purchase if you really plan to put a lot of miles on the car and try to keep it beyond the 120k mileage mark -- which seems like it will happen to you around the 3rd - 4th year of ownership. More tends to go wrong after that point with sensors, exhaust components, engine mounts, AWD components like transfer cases/differentials, heating/cooling systems, navigation head units and radios...most of these are expensive and covered by your platinum warranty. If any of these things do go bad, you'll be glad you have that warranty.
One way of looking it at things is that if you roll dice and it does go bad without the warranty, you have to pay whatever the out of pockets costs are at that time down the road--and we all know that things become inflated with dealership service costs $$$ as each year goes by. Its always good to have a warranty when your car needs it most.
Toyota (and most car companies) know that most of their vehicles are built to last with little problems within the first 4-6 years but sell you these "younger" cars with a CPO warranty that are less likely to have warrant-able repairs...its just the name of the game.

Have the 8 year comprehensive Zurich warranty and have zero regrets. Had the same on our LX and it paid itself over at least 4 times. People say these warranties aren't "worth the paper they are written on" but considering how expensive these things are to fix, $2570 comes up real fast, especially at dealer rates. That, and we, unlike most people, keep cars for a long enough time to justify the warranty.
