Default Lexus ION GENERATOR Air Purification

Does anyone have this system?
Is there a noticeable difference in air quality?

I can't find any discussion in this forum about it.

This is all the info I can find about it from the factory manual.
Might be worth the upgrade.

Honestly, I only use it if I pass through an area where a skunk died, lol. I'm not sure if people use it all that frequently.

I would be curious to know what other people use it for though,

So is there a button to turn the ion generator on/off?
If there is I'm assuming the ion generator is part of the luxury package although there is no mention of it in the Lexus brochure.

If I had it i'd have it on all the time for the following reason:

"In high enough concentrations, negative ions clear the air of mold spores, pollen, pet dander, odors, cigarette smoke, bacteria, viruses, dust and other hazardous airborne particles.
They do this by attaching to these positively charged particles in large numbers. This causes the germs, mold, pollen and other allergens to become too heavy to stay airborne.
At this point they drop to the floor or attach to a nearby surface. This removes them from the air you breathe and prevents them from causing respiratory problems and other health issues."

You have cleaner air in the car and it will get rid of any bad smells.

P.S. I too drove a Civic before I found my 450h

I the ion filter is called a "pollen" filter by Lexus. If you reference page 334 of the Owner's Manual, it mentions how to access it.

The Owner's Manual doesn't say "if so equipped" so I'm pretty sure every GS has it. Please confirm though.

Here is a screenshot of the instructions:

I know I don't have it because it's bolted on to the bottom side of the climate control/radio unit and I have taken this out of the car a few times and my car doesn't have the ion generator components as I posted earlier.

I'll check tomorrow to see if my car has the micro dust and pollen filter button in the menu. If it does then that options just recirculates the air in the car through the cars existing air filter to purify it more not related to the ion generator.

I use it after driving with food in the car. It's pretty good at clearing out fast food and pizza odor.

I checked and I too have the micro dust and pollen filter option in nav, but I do not have the Ion Generator. I don't think the US spec GS's are equipped with it.

Here is the only article I can find on it and it's from Lexus UK: Lexus GS Ion Generator:
http://blog.lexus.co.uk/new-lexus-gs...ovation-award/

"The new GS 450h Premier utilises an air-conditioning system that incorporates nanotechnology. This new air cleaning method releases minute, 20 to 50nm-diameter nanoparticles – negatively charged ions wrapped in water molecules – through the driver’s dashboard air vent."

"The ions purify the air and eliminate odors by attaching themselves to airborne particles and molecules. They also deodorize the seats and roof lining to create a cleaner cabin environment, and are said to have a moisturizing effect on hair and skin."

https://www.clublexus.com/how-tos/sl...like-a-spa-day

" lexus air conditioning is like a spa day

You wouldn't really expect your air conditioning system to do anything other than cool you off or warm you up, but Lexus takes things a bit further than that on the new LS and GS. Those models are equipped with air purifying nanoe technology, which not only deodorizes the cabin of the car but also moisturizes the skin and hair of everyone inside. It does this by releasing tiny nanoe particles, or negatively charged ions surrounded by water molecules, through the air vents."

You don't have the ion generator, here is what the micro dust and pollen filter button does:

"The button activates a climate system mode that takes advantage of the car’s micro dust and pollen filter, commonly called a cabin air filter. These types of filters, which do not look like a jar of cotton ***** in real life, help remove dust and allergens when systems suck in air from the outside to pass around on the inside.

Two things happen when the button is pressed. Re-circulation mode is triggered, and cabin air is exclusively routed through the dust and pollen filter. At the same time, air is kicked to the upper vents to deliver the freshly filtered air up occupants’ nostrils."

The ion generator does something completely different as I posted before. I don't think the US spec GS's have this as an option.

Someone who understands wiring diagrams can help me understand this. If I were to buy and install the ion generator I would have to know how to wire it up properly.

N70 is the Ion Generator circled in purple on the right side. On the left side of the picture is the corresponding pin outs on the ion generator. There are just 4 wires I would have to connect.

N79 is the AC amplifier assembly and on the left of the picture is the corresponding pin outs on the harness.

Whats the purple part circled on the left side of the picture? 10amp fuses?
