Exclamation Thinking of buying a used 4GS need advice!

Hello all,

Im in the market for a new daily driver and I am thinking of getting a used GS350.. I have a budget of 33k OTD.. I was hoping you guys could tell me what I should look out for.. any trouble years? is there any high maintenance issues.. for example on my 2GS its well known the lower ball joints fail, the TPS sensor goes bad, etc etc.. should I avoid high mileage? anything like that I should know? Thanks!

As mentioned by supra725, with your price point, you should be able to snag a 2015. The 2015 has a slightly updated infotainment system and I believe most of the nagging issues with the 13-14 models with rattles, sunroof, drivetrain, etc. were better remedied with the 2015.

The 4GS is very reliable and I think you'll be able to get a 2015 certified with ease around the $30k mark which will warranty your ride until 2021.

will this make my car bumper and bumper until 2021? I can't seem to find much at the 29-30k mark.. most of the ones I've found have been 32-33k asking price.

Probably any years are fine, personally I'd either go for luxury model or fsport.

I just bought an L/Certified 2015 GS 350 F Sport Crafted Line Edition w/ 36k miles for $35k.

No issues or complaints. I'd do it again if I had to.

Luxury all the way.

Better front passenger seat. No issues w front brakes.
Fog lights. Turning headlights -- LOVE this. Double pane front windows. Rear window sunshades.
Rear seat climate and audio controls.

Bonus for Mark Levinson. It's literally the best sound system I've ever had in a car, better than the ML in my 2001...with the possible exception of the auto volume. The auto volume in my 2001 ML was flawless, but I'm constantly adjusting my 2013.

I agree with what you and most posters seem to think, go with the Luxury. That's what I've got, and the extra features you get with it are great. The adaptive headlights are so awesome. I do slightly prefer the F-Sport front bumper, but I can live without it to get the other Luxury features. If I had to do it again, I'd try to get a car with the heads-up display and Mark Levinson audio. However, the base audio system still sounds great. It's the best base audio I've heard in a car, personally, and I am kind of picky about audio.

If you'd like to save some money and not use your whole budget, I really think you'd be ok going with a 2013 or 2014, especially one with low mileage. These seem to be very reliable cars, and from what I understand, the engine has been used by Lexus for (at least?) a decade. I have a 2013 myself, and have had no problems, all I've had to do is maintenance. My only complaints are that I have some rattles in the cabin, which are annoying, and wind noise from my sunroof can be loud at high speed (sunroof is $50 DIY fix, install new seal), but to me these issues are quite different from having major mechanical issues where you have to shell out a lot of money to fix them. Good luck in your search!

They are harder to find, for sure! Keep an eye out for the wood on the steering wheel!

They are really rare, it was around a $6000 package so not many buyers chose it. I still have not found one locally either, even non local it is still slim pickings.

Be careful. I only selected two on this list and both did NOT have the Luxury package (Houston and Livermore).
