Default Why GS?

Hi All,
Would like to ask why did you pick GS and what were your other options?

My list is too short A6, MB E, for some reason BMW not attracting me at all.

Please advice.

Reliability, looks, performance, prestige (uniqueness).

Funny I looked at the same cars as you when I was looking at add another car. Its a better all around car imo, especially for reliability. Having a car in the shop all the time gets old. And the 13 5 series really didn't impress me either, I perferred my E60 in looks and feel all around. The gs350 also has more power over the 535i and you don't have to worry about turbos. Its a great sounding engine. Interior of the GS imo is better than the ones you mentioned too.

Are you leasing? Then A6 is your goto right now. I heard they are leasing for under $400/month. Zero down.
They look pretty good too.

My GS leased for under $380/month. I looked at all competitors and couldn't lease one for under $500.

RELIABILITY!
my opinion it's the only of its class that's a true sports saloon if you opt for f sport. Other than the e class. A6 is a stretched out 4. I personally hate BMW unless there's an M in front of it. But $$$$

An A6 at that price will be the 2.0T with barely any options. Also, the A6 is an old car that is ready for a redesign; it'll be released sometime next year. So...I wouldn't recommend getting an A6 right now.

The GS is the better handling car (when first released) and like others mentioned, the interior is nicer, sharper styling, better reliability, and better value.

Reliability was a big factor alongside the car's overall uniqueness. I don't know anyone who has a 4GS and there are very few in my locale with it. It seems like the 3, 5 and X series BMWs are very popular in my area along with the E-Class Benz and ML/GLE SUV.

All my previous cars were also Toyota/Lexus and the overall ownership experience has been excellent.

I've not driven the current generation 2016-23 true calendar year Mercedes E Class, however the GS cruises considerably quieter than my friend's previous generation 2009-16 true calendar year E350 3.5L V6, both around town, and on the highway.
It's not just tire noise, but the E Class seems to have more noise coming from wind, firewall, exhaust, and road noise.

Yea of course it's going to be the 2.0T, which is somewhat comparable to the Lexus 3.5...
It just depends. If he needs a temporary "nice" car like me, then A6 is it.
GS is due for a redesign next fall or so. Same boat as A6.

As someone mentioned, GS if buying, A6 if leasing...

I'd take the 3.5L V6 over a 2.0T any day. Turbo-4 are nowhere as refined as V6 (NA or FI).

True the GS is almost due to be redesigned too, but at least it doesn't feel old compared to the rest of the range. Audi has redone everything else and the A6/A7 are the last to be updated. I've driven the A6 and left unimpressed. The 3.0T is fun in a straight line, but handling was boring and felt bigger to drive than it was. Remove the fun 3.0T engine and replace with the 2.0T, and you're left with a boring sedan.

I cross-shopped a 535d while looking at the GS450h I eventually bought. The biggest factor besides the reliability is how the 535d drives like a barge while the GS turns extraordinarily sharply despite its size. The difference was so significant that my wife, without any prompting from me, commented on that first thing when she tried the 535d.

The I6 diesel in the 535d was very smooth though, nearly as smooth as the GS's V6 when the it's not on pure electric drive. But the start-stop system on the 535d was the second thing my wife immediately noticed and complained about. Pretty much sealed the deal for us (even though the bimmer had AWD and more options for about the same price).

Lexus is the only car in the list that you can beat on without having to worry about longer-term ownership headaches. If you swap cars every 2-3 years, by all means go for Germans.

1. Reliability,
2. Features (Luxury Package),
3. Safety,
4. Interior Design/Looks,
5. Performance,
6. Exterior Looks,
7. Prestige,
8. relative location to dealer
9. and cost.

In that order.

Based on my rating the GS Lux rated top in 1, 2, 4, 8 and 9 when compared against the A6, E and 5 series. And when I say features, the features I desired like 18 way seats.
