I would like to hear about the outcome...

Yeah, interesting issue if real, as it would indicate that the door locks will not function at all without electrical power - even with the mechanical key...
waiting to see also...
Anyone one curious enough to test this out by unplugging their battery for 10 mins and then trying to unlock with mechanical key?

Wow! Didn't realize how quickly folks can turn on you! Some people help, some are jerks. Thanks to those of you who tried to help answer my questions!! Here's the outcome...
The manual keys won't open the driver door because apparently something on the inside of the door is misaligned. The driver door relay had to be replaced months ago and they had to remove the door panel to do that repair. Apparently when the panel was replaced they screwed up the locking mechanism part. About noon TODAY I finally got an answer from my dealership about that. They've set up an appt. for this upcoming Saturday to fix that so the manual keys can be used in the future. They won't be charging us for that repair. Thank Goodness! And, as for the car not opening electronically, the battery was dead for some reason. They think perhaps something drained the battery possibly during the extensive repair time it was being serviced (4 1/2 hours). After we charged the battery at home, the car runs and starts up just fine! And...the way we were finally able to get into the car, we ended up getting into the trunk and accessed the interior through the trunk opening...we stuck a long rod through the back seat entry hole from the trunk and used a hook on the end of the rod to manually pull the handle of the back door, which opened the door from the inside.

Thank you for the update Cjack00. That was very helpful to know why the manual key failed to work. Be sure to test the manual key after the dealership makes the repair! I must say, something just doesn't sound right about the battery becoming stone dead after the car was driven after the lengthy service. I would be very cautious about that battery...
I recommend that you drop by a NTB (National Tire & Battery) and ask them to 'load test' your car's battery. They will do this at no-charge, and it only takes 5 minutes and can be done in their parking lot, and no paperwork is necessary. This 'load test' will determine how sound your battery is so you will know if your battery is questionable. By the way, this battery 'load test' should be done once a year after a battery becomes two years-old...and is especially recommended in hot climate areas like Texas.

Good info and thanks for the update. There's a manual key lock on the trunk? Good to know.
What model year is your car? There's a TSB covering the '13 and some of the '14 where the ECUs may fail to enter sleep mode and drain the battery. Agree with bclexus recommendation to get the battery load tested, our climate here is tough on the batteries.
