I guess they've decided to compete with Acura instead of the Germans.
Because that's all they'll be able to do with a performance ES.

By the way the car in the video has the same wheels of the gs (luxury) I just traded in!!
Anyway, despite some quirks, I Loved lexus as brand which I patronized for many years, but I moved on to a different brand recently, because I realized that there would be no new gs in sight anytime soon. I think it would be a bad move for the image of lexus as competing brand

I don't think they are dumb enough to kill the GS, not for the segment it's in

i dropped off my lexus yesterday to have the sunroof fixed, the guy told me don't expect a new model version of the GS; Lexus will be announcing the discontinuation of the GS model

These days, cars are becoming more and more powerful, such that it becomes necessary to have AWD to transmit the power to the road surface.
If it is true, then I hope we're not just getting the usual Camry-derived 2" stretched wheelbase ES with AWD.
Lexus would have to ensure that the 7ES had high aluminium content in its chassis, combined with front double wishbone and rear multilink aluminium suspension arms.
The massive power of a twin turbo will nicely neuter the extra weight of AWD.
I guess they're also thinking that a gasoline-electric hybrid or PHEV derivative which is normally tail heavy, will nicely neuter the front weight bias of transversely mounted engines.
It's not a bad idea to use transverse mounted engine and AWD, as long as the 7ES gets front double wishbone and rear multilink, plus a high aluminium content chassis including aluminium bonnet, trunk, and doors to totally distance itself from the TGNA-based Camry.
Historically, back in the 1990's, transverse mounted engines and AWD was a good idea, but the cars did not have enough power to require AWD, and there also wasn't enough power to compensate for the extra weight of the AWD mechanicals, such that FWD-based AWD didn't sell that well.

i couldn't agree any more... they are the antithesis to design. In my opinion their latest designs (LC aside) don't make much sense to me.

Rumors all over the place, including twin turbo v8.
I bet they're planning to skip a year while they retool. They did that in 2011.

Skipping a year makes more sense, since the current gen GS is using an all old tech anyway. New engines and a total redesign! And please be done with all these predator look nonsense!
