Default 2015 GS 350 - Gas Mileage question

Hi all. I just purchased a 2015 CPO GS 350 AWD (15K miles). I traded a 2010 Cadillac CTS AWD Wagon with 150K miles. In the wagon (3.0L 300 HP) I would get 26-28 mpg on the highway at 75ish. I seem to be doing a tad better with the GS 350 (27-29 mpg) but I seem to have a bit heavier foot with the GS - probably because it is new. The car has Dunlop tires. Am I within the expected mileage for the car?

One thing I have noticed, is that the range when I fill never goes more than 350 miles but I always get a bit more than that on the highway. I typically stop when the warning light for gas comes on... I am going to double check it with a trip to SC this week and trip to Iowa the following week. I always use premium. Is my sensor off? When I fill it is about 14 gallons. I thought tank was 17 gallons.

Thanks

When I'm cummuting, mixed local and highway I get 24 - 24.5 mpg. When I'm on the highway at a steady 75-85mph using cruise control I get 27.5-28.5 mpg. This is the mileage given by the cars computer. I have the same issue with the range after fill up. Usually it tells me somewhere in the 360's as a range, but I get just under 400 commuting, over 400 highway per tank. And I can usually get another 1.5 gallons in the tank after the gas station pump clicks off.

I have a awd and always drive in apexi red mode/sport, and I average around 19mpg. I drive pretty hard and usual manual/paddles at least in every trip.

Default 2015 gs350 gas mileage

My 2013 GS350 Base gets around 19 mpg as well. I changed the spark plugs at 60000 miles, and the mileage did not change. I notice a bit more engine smoothness, but no increase in power.

I fill up before the light comes on, so I don't see 400 miles per tank. I would caution anyone about topping up the tank all the way up. I know you will get a little extra range per tank, but you run the risk of destroying your charcoal canister, and it will eventually require replacement. I learned the hard way.

When the tank is overfilled, the extra fuel goes into the vent tube at the top of the filler neck. This fills up the canister, and over time the charcoal will get saturated and plug up the return. Once this happens, you may get a PO440 CODE like I did.

I had to replace a few emission items, including the canister. Hint....it was about 400 bucks for just the canister. Installation was hard too, as I had to lower the fuel tank slightly to gain access on my 1999 GS400. That was my first Lexus. The overly full tank does not allow for fumes expansion as you drive.

This is my 4th GS, and after that charcoal canister debacle, I simply fill up until click off and plan to fill up sooner. I sympathize with long distance drivers....I used to drive like that, but don't anymore.

Lexus, like most other manufacturers recommend filling the fuel tank just to click off for a reason. I understand now why they do that.

Thats just my opinion, and my experience.

How many times did you top off before this happened? Just curious. I haven't heard of this type of issue in a long time, so I guess it's not just an old wives tale anymore. Did you top off to the point of seeing gas at the filler hole? Or just a little extra?
